How Goldsmith tries the Filner case on TV
Didn't Filner encourage the city council to override the veto? What did the mayor's office know about the $100k payment?— August 17, 2013 2:16 p.m.
How Goldsmith tries the Filner case on TV
Didn't the mayor initially veto the proposal, only to encourage the city council to override his veto? Why would Filner have done that? Oh, and add me to list of people saying that Sunroad should have been investigated long ago.— August 17, 2013 1:43 p.m.
Head of U-T's streaming TV network leaves job
The U-T has a TV network?— August 17, 2013 10:21 a.m.
Palace coup? Filner could be locked out
Don: He said that the Chargers would put up $200 mil (which would undoubtedly include naming rights), the NFL would put up $200 mil (I am not sure if the NFL charges an interest rate on these loans), and the city could bond against (I believe those were his words) the Sports Arena and Qualcomm sites, which would be worth another $300 mil. Which leaves the city picking up the rest. Of course, that also means in reality the city is picking up that other $300 mil from the Sports Arena/Q sites, as instead of the city profiting from selling those sites, that money would go into a new stadium. So when you pencil it all out, the city would be on the hook for roughly 60-65% of the cost of a new stadium for the Chargers. Which would actually be more, assuming the city would sell bonds for the project, which last time I checked, were not interest-free. Not interested. And "the powers that be" keep talking about trying to host the Olympics in 2024. Welcome to Fantasyland.— August 16, 2013 12:24 p.m.
Palace coup? Filner could be locked out
Fabiani will probably do his best to keep a stadium plan off of the ballot--similar to the convention center expansion. Fabiani also feels that the convention center expansion plan will be tied up in court, and he thinks the Chargers can just swoop in and take that money for a football stadium instead. Oh HELL no.— August 15, 2013 11:15 p.m.
Palace coup? Filner could be locked out
Monaghan: I thought it was off-topic based on the title of this thread. But in regards to the Sports Arena property, if that property is sold and the arena is torn down, would they argue any replacement structures on that property be allowed to be the same height as the previous (arena) structure?— August 15, 2013 10:24 p.m.
San Diego builds into convention center glut
Don: I responded on another thread about who else has resurfaced, and is really looking to get his hands (or at least his employer's hands) on that $520 mil. Mark Fabiani.— August 15, 2013 9:24 p.m.
Palace coup? Filner could be locked out
Don: This is off-topic, but KUSI had a story after the Chargers game tonight entitled "Reality Check". It was an interview with Mark Fabiani, and you can guess what it was about. Filner's blood is in the water, and Fabiani is wasting no time getting a new Chargers stadium back to the forefront. Fabiani mentioned the usual things--the Chargers would put up $200 mil (never mentioning naming rights, specifically who would get them), the NFL would put up $200 mil, and the city could put up the sale of the Sports Arena and Qualcomm sites that would add up to another $300 mil. You can imagine who would put up the rest. And the site they showed included Tailgate Park for the Padres--it is my understanding that Tailgate Park is tied to the Padres through the year 2033, as that is part of the 30 year lease between the Padres and the city. Would the Padres sue the Chargers and/or the city to keep Tailgate Park? I know there have been many threads about this, but it might be an idea for a thread for something that may happen after/if Filner is recalled or resigns.— August 15, 2013 9:18 p.m.
City Attorney and Lawyers from Jack in the Box say Mayor Filner's objections to North Park restaurant rebuild a ploy to divert attention from harassment scandal
You do not believe? Then you don't know. Sounds like some of those seismic hazard maps need to be done near the convention center and the bay.— August 15, 2013 6:17 p.m.
City Attorney and Lawyers from Jack in the Box say Mayor Filner's objections to North Park restaurant rebuild a ploy to divert attention from harassment scandal
You mean like your convention center/stadium/whatever-else-it-is-supposed-to-be (I think you also proposed a cistern underneath it, or something like that)?— August 15, 2013 4:42 p.m.
