Allegations of Police Brutality at Occupy San Diego
My Take on the video.... The crowd was inciting an incident, the individual that was arrested did not comply with anything the police asked him to and when he was restrained he continued to fail to comply, thus making the situation more inflamed. As far as him "turning blue", I did not see any sign of cyanosis (blue) in the face or lips, but also the ambient light did not give anyone a good look, therefore one can and in the above article, did draw their own conclusion. Gents, don't get me wrong about why those folks are there. I do support the right to protest and question our government, but some of those guys are doing things down there that pull the mainstream away from supporting the cause in question.— January 3, 2012 1:46 p.m.

90% from San Diego COUNTY? How much has come from the CITY? He states that special interest is stacking up against him. Well there Carl what is the Lincoln Club, T.J. Zane and the boys + the San Diego Taxpayers (Lani's Repub Club) mean? They aren't a special interest? This election is going to be a bust for all. All cantidates stink on ice and will do nothing to improve life here.— July 13, 2011 4:22 p.m.
San Diego Outsources Billing for Helicopter Rescues
I think I can help you out on a few... 1. When those two kids got shot, the Pediatric Trauma Center is located at Children's Hopsital. This being some distance from Carlsbad and with traffic on the SB I-5, this can increase the possibility of further damage over time. The MEDEVAC can cut that timeframe in 1/2. Additionally with a GSW to the arm, there might have been the possibility of a life threatening bleed that would be compounded by the extended transport to proper facility. 2. The Paramedic on the ground makes the call on the mode and speed of transport in SD County. Usually MEDEVAC's are incidents with extended transport times (desert, East County and border region). 3. The city has been conducting MEDEVACs when Mercy Air is not available. Mercy Air has a binding contract with San Diego County to provide MEDEVAC services to all jurisdictions. SDFD is used when there is a 20min or longer response time. This has been in place for years.— December 19, 2010 11:59 a.m.
San Diego Outsources Billing for Helicopter Rescues
It's good to see that reality has caught up with the ploiticians. This "free ride" is now over and those who require air ambulance services will foot the bill, not the taxpayer. This should have been paying for itself a long time ago, but as usual.....— December 17, 2010 5:42 p.m.
San Diego’s pension fund expects to earn 7.75 percent a year
Don, I believe that when the removed the mills, and I mean removed the mills, the overall health of the population got remarkably better. I have family there and they love the Allegheny Valley more than ever, heck the Pittsburgh Regatta by Point State Park is the biggest city blowout ever, well next to the Steelers winning, and the rivers are blue and clean. The hills are greener and the architecture has been able to shed over 100 years of yuck and filth from J&L and US Steel.— October 14, 2010 3:20 p.m.
San Diego’s pension fund expects to earn 7.75 percent a year
Sorry Pup, you got my career all wrong. I am not retired from the Marines. I am a CWO2 with 20 years (9 active, 2 deployed and 9 reserve), and am still serving today (staying until 25 or until I can't outgun my Marines). Won't see my DoD retirement until I turn 60, but do qualify for health and base privelages upon leaving the line. I was 31 when I was hired at SDFD (guess I am a cop when deployed?) and will probably serve 28 total years on the line, body and God willing. I am very thankful for my job and treat all who I contact with the respect that I was brought up to believe. I know that many think I am overpaid, undereducated and overcompensated. That is a right that I stood on a wall with a shotgun for and respect the opinons of all here. As I pay more into the pension I do wonder what the endgame will be and what will be left at the end. Like I have posted many times before I believe in pension reform, I watched my grandfather out on strike during the Steelworker wars of the late 70's for a quarter a month raise, and the final demise of the City of Pittsburgh, so I know 1st hand what extremism does and what the fallout can be.— October 13, 2010 10:33 p.m.

Man I just wish the powers would just fix the mess and begin the process of bringing those who have created this mess to the stand. What I mean is get those politicians to stand before the man and explain themselves. We've done the dance with the SDCRES boardmembers, now let's get the architects of the disaster. I am personally getting tired of taking a beating for decisions that were voted and enacted long before I left active service and hired by the city. Besides I'll stay on the job until I can't do it anymore (probably well past 55), and that's how I am with my reserve unit and love every day I serve with some of the finest Marines in San Diego. Compared with Orange and L.A., San Diego Underspends on Firefighting
To Founder, maybe you need to dig deeper into why the military was not flying. The C-130's that have flown in other fires could not use the airdrop system due to Calif Air Guard getting the newer model of C-130 and the MAFFS system did not fit anymore. They had to call in C-130's in from Wyoming that had the older model of C-130. The Navy Commodore that had the SH-60's trained, initially refused to put the planes into the fight, but was pressured by Navy brass to get off of his and the planes into the air. Marine pilots do not like firefighting missions. I have several friends who are CH-46/CH-53 pilots and they don't like to fly in zero visibility nor do they like operating in terrain not seen in daylight. As far as "sleeping on the fireline", I will tell you in 2007 I did not sleep until after the 1st 36 hours on the line. That is a dangerous practice of sleeping on the line, and is a poor assumpion. I did get OT, so what. I do my job to the best of my ability, not by how much I get paid. Do we have those who "milk the system", sure, every job field has them.— September 1, 2010 6:37 p.m.
Philly Child's Death Also Blamed on Brownouts
Can't do it, I'm too much of a realist. Got a bad habit of callin' a spade a spade with colorful verbage (got that from 20 years in the Marines). Besides I have a waaay too sensitive BSometer.— August 13, 2010 9:13 p.m.
