How Lobbyist Tried to Sway Pat Kruer
And the boom comes down; Port of San Diego fires lobbyist who boasted of "spoon feeding" commissioner July 12, 2010 | 5:30 pm A lobbyist who boasted in emails about “spoon feeding” a California Coastal Commissioner while attempting to secure his vote on a controversial project has been fired by the Port of San Diego. In a letter to Coastal Commission members Friday, Robert “Dukie” Valderrama, chair of the Board of Port Commissioners, wrote he was “appalled” by what the port’s hired lobbyist, Susan McCabe, said in her emails. He said she was no longer under contract and was being replaced. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2010/07/por…— July 12, 2010 7:01 p.m.

Note her prior self-admitted term(s) as a Coastal Commission member, which should be an ethical bar to lobbying current members, but apparently is not. ================ Nope, no bar at all. Calpers and Alfred Villalobos were probably giving McCabe and the CA Co. Comm. coaching tips on how to skirt the law. It is not what you know, but who you know in gov. Always has been, always will be. There is another article here in the reader on the scam going on in Chula Vista between police Chief David Bejarano (former SDPD Chief) and one of tghe elected officials with major laws/policy/rules being broken or skirted. This never ends, and is a good reason why we should limit gov as much as we can.— July 12, 2010 6:51 p.m.

Many contracts with the City are with Delaware LLCs, that would show Conflicts of Interests if the City Chartered Section 225 was followed and the owners of the Delaware LLC were identified. =============== Don't LLC's have to identify who the owners are????? I don't see how someone can get around conflict of interest issues by simply doing business under an LLC. There must be some sort of disclosure for LLC's and corps.— July 12, 2010 6:45 p.m.
Chula Vista's former police head David Bejarano accused of check fraud by partner
Wink-Wink to that ==================== LOL.................that is the operating model for gov employment-and of course if you're connected you're getting the $100K+ comp packages!— July 12, 2010 12:49 p.m.

It would be nice if Kessler could ask some questions about the Sunroad building too. ======================= Oh please, let Jerry babble all he can about Sunroad, and tighten that noose around his political neck-please!!!!!!! . . In any case, Sanders needs to be exposed if he is truly unethical. I think he plans to run for the Senate in 2012 when Dianne Feinstein's term is up. He will likely run as a person who can save the state money by outsourcing everything. This is why he is vigorously persuing outsourcing at this time. ======================= JFC Sanders said he was going to outsource when he was elected Mayor-still hasn't happened. So if he runs on his ability to outsource, his senate run will be over faster than Susan Goldings was-IF that is even possible.— July 11, 2010 9:58 p.m.

You all love to slam CCDC, but I ask myself this question: Where would downtown San Diego and the East Village be now without it? And where will be in the future? ============= I think a strong case can be made the DT development would have happened with or w/o CCDC. Horton Plaza didn't need CCDC to make the magic happen. Petco Park didn't, all the high rise condo's didn't either, nor the new city hall and library if they get green lighted. Your question is fair-but open to speculation from all sides and we will never know the answer. My money says that the SEDC and CCDC do not bring value relative to their enourmous costs.— July 11, 2010 9:52 p.m.
Will For-Profit Colleges Make Us Forget Subprime Mortgages?
My observations of NU go back, I have to admit, almost 25 years. Many things about that operation have doubtlessly changed over those many years. But I still don't think that it is possible to earn a legitimate MBA in 18 months while employed full time, and that is just what was going on then. ========== I can tell you my experiences at National back in the mid 80's when I took teacher credentialing classes there-it was a sham. 100%, fully certified scam. I never bought a single book, did NO homework, did no papers, just took the tests-one mid term and one final per class. I recevied "A"'s in every single class. As did 90% of the class. These were "graduate" level teacher ed classes. NU was a "pay for your A" diploma mill then, I bet it still is. The ONLY thing they had going-and why teacher wannabes enrolled- was you could do the credential in less than half the time you could at SDSU with 1/100th of the work. I'm not lying. At SDSU you would have to put in a few hundred hours of study time PER CLASS to get a passing grade. The NU classes at that time were $500 each. The extra money you spent on the classes ($4-$5K) would easily cover itself in the extra year of work you would be able to secure while everyone else at SDSU- in the real teacher ed program- was still in the teacher ed classes. The difference in the education you received at National as compared to SDSU (the top cal-state university) would be like comparing a go-kart to an Indy 500 race car. Night and day.— July 11, 2010 12:57 p.m.

Is it good for Southeast SD? =================== The real question to measure SEDC by is does the ROI add up. Something every business abides by but no one in government understands or has a clue about, much less the ability to analyze if there is a postive ROI. That is an unqualifed NO WAY. SEDC probably spends $10 for every $1-$2 in business or improvment they bring in.— July 11, 2010 12:41 p.m.

Marco Li Mandri has his whole freaking family on the payroll of New City America; http://newcityamerica.com/contactus.asp Their office is right next door to Barone/Galasso. That makes one go Hhhmmmmmmm.— July 11, 2010 12:36 p.m.

I challenge any & all Reader's to point to a better managed part of SD! ================== Get serious. Glasso is a clown, as is his partner James V. Barone-who was sued for fraud -and lost- by his former employer, Sperry Van Ness Investment Real Etsate. They are both trough feeders and fraudstirs. Don has posted more dirt on Marco Li Mandri than a garbage dump has.— July 10, 2010 10:27 p.m.
