San Diego schools, parks, safety suffer to pay for the Chargers
surfpuppy, how can someone who never watches football on tv or in person be a Chargers fan and love the team? I don't see how you reckon that one out. ================================ True-I don't watch Pro Football anymore, but the Chargers are OUR team, and I do love them, even if I do not attend games (only the rich can these days). I do watch them on TV when they air the games, if even for a quarter. I always watch the play off games. I will say this, I did watch football many years ago, and when the Chargers beat the Pittsburgh Stealers in Pittsburgh to win the AFC Championship and a trip to the Superbowl, I went crazy!!! The Steelers on the San Diego 2 yard line with 8 seconds left and the Steelers last down to try to score a TD and WIN the game and go to the Superbowl, Neil O'Donnell takes the snap and drops back, O'Donnell passes into the end zone, middle linebacker Gibson steps up and bats the pass down into the turf-game over!!!!! Chargers win!!!!And this City went crazy. If you were not here in 95 when that happened then you cannot understand how happy and proud the civic pride was in this City-I can honestly say I have never seen this City so happy and ecstatic. It was a jubilant time, and likely will not be repeated in San Diego for decades. I love the Padres too. I even loved the San Diego Sockers when they were here. I even was a fan of the San Diego Surf Dawgs!!!!— December 16, 2010 11:06 p.m.
Escondido Bomb Scare
The ballpark is bound to be another nightmare altogether... ============================= Oh Ms. Mindy, you have no idea if it is approved, no idea..... Here, I will read the future for you-get ready for a "sales tax" increase to pay for basic services, which will be cut to pay for the corporate welfare/stadium scam! Oh, and they will tell you the sky is going to fall if you don't approve the corporate welfare/stadium sales tax increase. Here, I'll make it easy- Just go back to October and review what KFC Sanders and the FF union were claiming prior to Prop D failing. That will be Escondido if the stadium scam is approved.— December 16, 2010 10:58 p.m.
Lobbyists Hired for Sam Zell's Otay-Tijuana Border Complex
Ducheny was recently appointed by the Senate Rules Committee to a $114,000-a-year position on the seven-member California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, made up entirely of ex-legislators, including ex-GOP assemblyman George Plescia, appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. ===================== The so-called boards are nothing but fraudulent slush funds given out to gov cronies. It is fraud, nothing more. The pay is $114K, plus the benefits package including pensions, they meet once a month for a few hours. So by doing the math of say 6 hours per month, that is 72 total hours per year. So their comp of is $114K plus another $65K in benefits, totals about $180K per year. Hourly comp rate= $2,500 an hour. Oh, and they do absolutely nothing. The CA UE Appeals Board has never reversed a hearing officers decision. If you lose at the hearing the UE Appeals board is nothing but a rubber stamp for the hearing officer. They should just fire the board and make the appeals process go straight to Superior Court on appeal, but then their scam would end which defeats the purpose of their scam in the first place. BTW-these jobs are not advertised and not promoted openly, only the connected few get hired. Like all high comped gov jobs (ie FF, cop, manager) they are reserved for the family and friends network. The only difference is cop and FF must publish the job openings, but they can still hire anyone they want to, without regard to qualifications or merit. People need to remember this the next time the gov wants a tax hike, and Brown has already floated trial balloons that he is going to ask for a tax hike in the Spring. Have fun getting that passed. Seems we just had a statewide election asking for tax hikes just a month ago and it failed by a 2-1 margin. Brown needs to call Mayor Sanders and ask him how Prop D did.— December 16, 2010 10:54 p.m.
Escondido Bomb Scare
Expect to see many more angry folks start complaining since our Leaders now seem to be spending much of our current and future tax money on "Fluff" projects like San Diego's "Guacamole Bowl" Stadium and the just approved Esc. Stadium for the Wealthy instead of keeping our Library's open... =================== Well said Founder!— December 16, 2010 5:36 p.m.
San Diego schools, parks, safety suffer to pay for the Chargers
I guess you first have to define "raging fanatic". ====================== The % that are "raging fanatics" would be limtied to those that go to the AWAY games, which is miniscule- IMHO. Heck, even counting the home games the % is very small. I am a Chargers fan, I love the team, same with the Padres-but they are not going to stick their fingers in my back pocket and steal from me. I would bet my view covers the majority of the fans-hence not very many who are "raging fanatics". IMO anyway.— December 16, 2010 5:34 p.m.

“City employees can work 20 or 30 years, retire with 90 percent of their income, and live 30 more years. Those numbers don’t work,” but many councilmembers don’t understand that, says Bruvold. ===================== This is even a better summary.— December 16, 2010 5:31 p.m.
Escondido Council Approves Ballpark -- with Reservations
Look at how San Diego was fleeced by both the Chargers and Padres ================== Come on Don, it was fixed I have said this repeatedly Don, it was not a fleecing b/c it was done knowingly, willfully and intentionally by the elected leaders. The elected leaders were getting kickbacks-thru campaign contributions or otherwise-and as a result they gave away the farm (after all the farm belongs to the taxpayers not them- they face no personal loss). A FIRST SEMESTER LAW STUDENT, with just "Contracts I" under their belt could have drafted a better contract than the City did with the Chargers, or the City did with the Padres (who gave the entire $150 million in naming rights of Petco to the Padres-no split at all-fixed!). I can guarantee you that these elected officials are getting their palms greased, with legal campaign contribution $$$ or under the table. I wouldn’t be surprised if a brief case full of cash "mysteriously" showed up on these officials’ doorsteps looking for a home.— December 16, 2010 5:18 p.m.

Escondido Council Approves Ballpark -- with Reservations
These monors should be tarred, feathered and run out of town. The citizens should be outraged. They should be taking pitchforks down to City Hall. Portland obviously has way more intelligent leaders, if we could only import those leaders to Escondido and San Diego. For the life of me I cannot udnderstand WHY elected officals are giving away public funds-gifts of public funds- to pro sports teams in this modern age. Maybe 15, 20 years ago-but today?? I am pretty sure kickbacks are involved, in both Escondido and San Diego-it just doesn't make sense any other way. I wish we had someone who ran on a one issue platform for Mayor-no corporate welfare for billionaires. Or public employee unions-a two issue platform really.— December 16, 2010 10:02 a.m.
