SD Unemployment Rises to 10.3%
So retail lost 5K jobs-big deal. Retail are basically minimum wage, do little/nothing jobs. They should be filled by HS, college students and others who need flexible work schedules. Retail will never hurt, not help, the economy IMO. Same for hospitality jobs. Low wage do nothign jobs. Manufacturing jobs, that's what we need.— March 5, 2011 8:38 a.m.
San Ysidro Is Too Far South for Sidewalks
Normal wear and tear or age damage is the responsibility of the homeowner =================== Sidewalks that have aged are not the responsility of the property owner. If the property owner has a tree or in some other way their property damages the sidewalk then the muni could certainly bill the property owner-no argument there. But sidewalks are not real proeprty that the owner has exlcusive acess to, they cannot be charged for normal wear and tear from pedistrian use. Concrete has a life span like all materials and when they meet their life span they are the muni's problem. Sidewalks are a municipal core service the same as street repair, traffic lights, street lights and so forth.— March 4, 2011 5:26 p.m.
Trash Talk at City Hall
Why do they get FREE trash pickup while everybody else has to pay $20 a month? ============= "Let me dispel this notion that [trash pickup] is a free service. It's not free," said councilmember Carl DeMaio. "You pay your taxes. Voters voted, and they decided that this would be a core service. The right thing to do is safeguard these 14,000 residents." It is not free, it is a core service. If you want it to be part of core service in Lemon Grove or Chula Vista ask them to cut the compensation of their grossly over paid cops and firewhiners.— March 4, 2011 5:16 p.m.
San Ysidro Is Too Far South for Sidewalks
Most people think it is the city's responsibility to provide sidewalks, but in fact, it is the responsibility of the adjacent property owner. =============== Nope, it is not the private proieprty owners responsibility-I have no idea who told you that lie but it is false. The private property owner is no more responsible for sidewalks than they are for the road that runs in front of their property or the main sewer line under the street. Sidewalks are not the repsoniblity of the property owner, it is the muni that is responsible. As a licensed real estate broker who did a numer of transactions with commercial properties I have had numerous cases of muni's wanting the private property owner or potential owner to cover the muni's costs of installing sidewalks where there were none before, in exchange for granting a variance or something else to the property owner. It never works. The potential buyer of property just moves on to another site, the muni loses jobs and tax revenue, and gov is just being gov wrecking the job market and economy.— March 4, 2011 8:37 a.m.

City's Latest Attempt to Thwart Kessler Suit Fails
I expect this case to lead to seven figures of hush money paid with the peoples money, to keep the people ignorant. ============== If they paid that kind of money out, they would have to disclose all the facts publicly, and the citizens would be outraged. One thing I always see in gov when they are in lawsuits, they won't settle a bad case, they always want to contest it no matter how bad the facts are or how stacked the law is against them. And if they lose they want to appeal-and they usually end up losing the appeal and spendingf 10-100 times more than what they could have settled for and NO ONE is fired, called on the carpet or in any other way held responsible.— March 3, 2011 9:41 p.m.

New Border Pedestrian Bridge to Open Soon
What were the construction costs and how long has it taken to build? How does it compare to the CCDC's $28 million Harbor Drive pedestrian bridge (which still isn't open, as far as I know)? ====== Oh no, we dont need to know that-I already have more brain damage than I can handle.....— March 3, 2011 7:16 p.m.
San Diego money manager Charles Brandes suffers with sagging newspapers
To the person who is using Ann Humphreville's name (7)- please stop it. She was a proud Brandes employee who died from cancer 2 years ago. ================== That is very low, using her name like that. Moderators should delete that obvious gimmick account.— March 3, 2011 4:25 p.m.
