Tighter Times Ahead for California's Colleges
I am looking at the current budget-and I need to research the stats, but it looks like I was correct about the prisons but wrong on Higher Education which had a 17% cut of the budget 30+ years ago-and took a huge hit. Off on Higher Ed, but on the money on prisons. After a very short search it appears Higher Education was at 17% of the general fund in 1976, and is now at 8.3%, for 2011-2012, or a cut of more than 50%. . http://greenlining.org/resources/pdfs/9FACTSHEET4… . The CA prison budget-as stated- was 3% of general fund revenue in 1976 and 11% today-which was almost 400% more than prison expenditures in 1976, while Higher education si at just 8.3%, bad news anyway you slice it; "But other than that, only one part of the budget has experienced any significant growth at all in the last 30 years, and that has been a doozy: from accounting for a bit more that 3% of the budget in 1976, Corrections now accounts for nearly 11%." . http://zunguzungu.wordpress.com/2011/07/14/where-… .— August 23, 2011 9:40 a.m.
Point Loma Residents Warn Navy Against Waking the "Sleeping Giant"
"Khalil has a reputation of making things up and to put it as plain as possible fabricating so called facts" And how do you know this?— August 22, 2011 4:31 p.m.
Tighter Times Ahead for California's Colleges
We still have the money, except it has now been hijacked away from higehr education and students and into the pockets of the prison guards and other public employees. Higher education budget 1978= 12% of revenue Prison budget 1978= 3% of revenue Higher education budget 2011= 3% of revenue Prison budget 2011= 11% of revenue— August 22, 2011 4:29 p.m.
Tighter Times Ahead for California's Colleges
Wow, what timing! For the first time, the total amount that University of California students pay in tuition this year will surpass the funding the prestigious public university receives from the state. It is a historic shift for the UC system and part of a national trend that is changing the nature of public higher education. Propelled by budget crises in California and elsewhere, the burden of paying for education at a public college or university, once heavily subsidized by taxpayers, is shifting to students and their families. . http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-college-p… .— August 22, 2011 4:27 p.m.
DeMaio Accuses Fletcher of Lifting Ideas

Anger
Hey, coming from a fairly disFUNctional family, I knowe your pain. I must sday I never had it as bad as foster care though, but there were periods (very brief) that were worse than foster care. But in the end it is best to make peace and let it go, which I am glad you have. BTW, our family pouts the FUN in disfunctional!— August 21, 2011 11:28 p.m.

Smokers Targeted in Anti-Litter Campaign
I have to come to the defense of Rocket. I am sick of all the dog feces around too. I don't mind doing beach clean-ups and picking up trash and ciggie butts on the ocean but I get so incensed when idiot dog walkers come by my front yard (all day long) and let their dogs do their business & then just walk away. ========================== I would be incensed too! Thosed are the few and far between owners though, and if that happened to my yard I would be intheir face. But you cannot claim thaqt is the rule, becuase it clearly is not.— August 21, 2011 9:39 a.m.
New Calif. redevelopment law could stop Chargers stadium
Leiweke also responded sharply to a recent comment by San Diego Chargers attorney Mark Fabiani that it would require a "miracle" for AEG to break ground on a stadium project by next year. The Chargers have been looking for a stadium solution in the San Diego area for almost a decade and are a top relocation candidate. "I think the problem with the Chargers is, [Fabiani] can sit here and talk about all the things we need to go through," Leiweke said, "but the last time I checked, they've been doing it for 10 years and they're nowhere. "And the difference between us and them is we've got a guy willing to write a check for a billion. They've got zero financing, zero entitlements, zero design, zero deal with the city, and zero property that ultimately is not contaminated. Good luck." He added that the Chargers "are not the only belle at the ball." ================\ BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-nfl-coliseum-… .— August 20, 2011 9:08 p.m.
