United Church of Christ La Mesa
Mr. Lickona, You observed an "experimental" service during your recent visit to UCCLM - and may (unwittingly)have been used to promote the idea that this is the norm for our worship practices. I would like to invite you to attend UCC La Mesa on a Sunday other than the third one to see how we usually "do church". Our congregation embraces a progressive theology within the framework of a diverse social perspective with roots in the established traditions of the United Church of Christ. We worship in our sanctuary, sing hymns accompanied by an organ, enjoy special music, share our joys and concerns (prayer requests), and engage in active discernment of God's word in relationship to our lives in this day and age. Many churches are trying out different forms of worship, but I think it is worth noting that the United Church of Christ in La Mesa has a long history of innovation within the context of a basically traditional service. Who knows? Some of your readers may be looking for just such a church - one with contemporary thought and customary practice - like UCCLM. Thanks very much.— September 24, 2009 1:47 p.m.
