Encina wastewater treatment facility in Carlsbad.solves biosolid problem
You know what's in your own only if you know what kinds of drugs are currently running through your city's water. How much progesterone, methamphetamine, how many flavors of antibiotic...— May 1, 2009 11:14 p.m.

C'mon Josh, get some ideas! You have gold-plated laptops to deliver. Payola! Can't comment. Just about everything I write is parenthetical. Will you take any pics of the Venetian?— May 1, 2009 11:07 p.m.

andrea1221, thank you so much for bringing up Christopher Guest movies! Love love love Best in Show, and Mr. Guest himself (Hound doggy!) and it is a tough pick, but I have to say that "A Mighty Wind" is my current favorite, just barely beating out Best in Show. I haven't seen that film, but remember Laura Dern acting against Mary Kay Place (of HBO's Big Love fame) in a few good mother-daughter moments--and the theme is just as you described. Wierd, though, it wasn't called "Rambling Rose." Forget the name of the film or if it's really worth it--was based on an amazing short story by Joyce Carol Oates... I'm not a huge fan of romance films, but have to agree on Bridges of Madison County. The two of them just sitting across the formica kitchen table from each other gives me shivers, too; you can sense the clammy palms (geez, how long ago did we feel that?!) I challenge everyone! What's the best romance film? This is a tough one for me.... Btw, Magics, that is a sweet little scene you invoke there from Throw Mama, and a fleeting one. I agree with your assessment, and it really does set up Devito's character, doesn't it?— May 1, 2009 10:27 p.m.

I have "Guide for the Married Man" on order, as well as other recommends on this thread. Yes, he's a theatre dude. Morse did the film version of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." Only other place I know him from is the AMC series Mad Men. He's understandably elderly now. Drives me nuts when my cousin yells out "Uncle KFC!" whenever he comes on screen. (He wears the bow tie). It's Mad X four. It's a B&W film too, a little later in 1960s (?)but not overly comparable. Some might think Loved One builds a little slowly, takes its time setting up. I love every second of it. Curious to know what you think. I still like Mad Libs; just glad they don't require extensive knowledge of semi-colons.— May 1, 2009 4:13 p.m.

Spliff, this song is dedicated to you: "...And I give a flower to the big fat cop/ He takes his club and he beats me up/ I give a flower to the garbage man/ He stuffs my girl in a garbage can/ And I give it to the landlord when the rent comes round/ He throws it in a toilet and he flush it down/ It goes down to the sewer, with the yuck 'a runnin' through 'er/ And it runs into the river that we drink! Josh wrote: "Phillip Seymour Hoffmann...One of the most versatile actors around (check out that movie he made with DeNiro)..." "Flawless." Was on Encore tonight. "Banana fanna fo fastard...me my mo mastard..." Ok, my #1 favorite film on the PLANET. CANNOT recommend this film enough: THE LOVED ONE (Tony Richardson) A satirical look at the 1960s funeral industry, set in LA. Lallaw, trust me--it BLOWS 6 Feet Under--away. Just check out the cast: Jonathan Winters in multiple roles, notably as The Reverend Glenworthy, head of "Whispering Glades," a very exclusive cemetery and funereal parlor--and more! "I want those stiffs off my property!" Robert Morse as "Dennis Barlow," a sly little British slacker and fake Romantic poet. Rod Steiger as "Mr. Joyboy," the wierd, brilliant, celebrated head embalmer at Whispering Glades. The scenes with his 300 plus pound mother, as she salivates over a King Krab commercial are priceless. "We're saving up for mom's big tub!" John Gielgud (as Morse's uncle, an old hack of a studio exec, who spends most of the film as a tarted up old corpse, under Steiger's (Joyboy's) care. Roddy McDowall as DJ Jr., an obnoxious Hollywood bigwig's obnoxious nephew. There are bit parts to watch out for--James Coburn, Milton Berle, Tab Hunter, Lionel Stander, Alan Napier, etc. etc. etc. and Liberace. Yes! Liberace as a casket-salesman! (They're dampness proof, Mr. Barlow!)— May 1, 2009 12:54 a.m.
