SD Junior Theatre teacher going to prison
facttroll Looking carefully at the sentencing memorandum it reads that the victim of Von Metzke's abuse reached out to a teaching artist at JT on November 3rd. Jane Doe confides in the teacher about what occurred with Von Metzke. the teacher's response? "I can't know this information. What you did with that teacher is a crime. If it comes out that I knew and didn't report it I will be in trouble. Just stop texting me." The teacher kept this information to herself and did not report it to JT's interim education director until January once the girl's parents were involved. You state that the teaching staff handled this situation correctly? As you can see from her text the teacher was not concerned with the welfare of the child. Her main concern was keeping herself out of trouble.— June 25, 2017 11:07 a.m.
San Diego Junior Theatre keeps up the Oz-like curtain
This problem has a simple solution. JT needs an independent investigation as to what's going on. If you are interested in finding out the truth and making change happen please call the City Attorney's office at 619-236-6220 and demand they take action. Or email them at [email protected] Mara Elliott has 2 deputy city attorneys working for her who are board members at JT (Joan Dawson and Catherine Morrison). Is she looking into this situation or is helping to cover up her employees' unethical actions? Ask her! The city gives annual funding to JT as well as free access to the buildings they use. They have an interest in seeing this organization thrive. Hold them accountable.— June 1, 2017 10:11 p.m.
Brouhaha or foofaraw at San Diego Junior Theatre?
Abuse of power has no place in any society and it is particularly repugnant when used against impressionable children and their loved ones. These children are simply trying to have a safe outlet for creative expression. They should not be subjected to indignities or worse. Also, organizations such as these nonprofits are legally required to abide by the terms and conditions of their 501(c)(3) status. It is bad enough when "lay people" who are Board Members inadvertently run afoul of such responsibilities but it is unconscionable when attorneys that are Board Members violate statutes relating to ethics, conflict of interests, misappropriation of trust funds, etc. They know better. Such Board Members should be terminated so that the sanctity of the 501(c)(3) is preserved otherwise the 501(c)(3)'s status as a nonprofit is in jeopardy. If the 501(c)(3) status is revoked and this Junior Theater ceases to function in harmony with its intended purpose then the children are victimized all over again. That would be a tragedy. Furthermore, it would be a travesty of justice if the Attorney General were to not pursue such a matter especially since it has been brought to his attention and it is the subject of a submitted Complaint.— May 6, 2017 8 p.m.
