A bumpy road through Civita in Mission Valley
You and I both know why, this city is still controlled by developers. Up in Carlsbad they said NO to an unpopular development. But San Diego plays by their own, corrupt rules. In 1981 I lived in Mission Valley in a development called "Fashion Hills." It overlooks Fashion Valley Mall. Back then there were very few condos in the valley. Christmas time was hell for traffic. Nowadays, when I am in the area, the traffic reminds me of the Christmastime of the 80's, but now it's every freakin' day. I looked at those condos at Civita. Laughing to myself that I had a much more spacious place, 1955 sq ft. in Fashions Hills for $145,000 in 1982. When interest rates were 15%. I'm glad I don't live in Mission Valley anymore. What a dump it has become no matter how new the building. Civita? Give me a break, 4 story box condo where you have to run up and down stairs all freakin day? What are you going to do with children? Or elderly people. That whole development is a sham that knew the roads were going to go through. Mark my words. I've lived in Scam Diego for 58 years. I've seen it all. Civita was a definite P.T. Barnum development... a sucker born every minute. Except now they seem to be born every nano-second.— October 15, 2016 10:45 p.m.
What got into Wells Fargo?
I agree about the credit unions. I've dealt with banks and learned early on how predatory they are. For example, when they process checks, they start with the largest checks first so if the account gets over-drafted, the remaining smaller checks rack up non-sufficient fund fees - instead of processing all the smaller checks first and bouncing that one large check last. Debit overdrafts fee, credit card over-limit fees, 24% interest credit cards, ATM fees (paying them to get some of your own money back!) Plus the time people waste at waiting in line at banks. I have been a credit union member for years. I rarely go to the bank anymore, depositing most checks with my smartphone, online or auto-deposit. I never use a debit card except for cash withdrawals (which are free at many ATM's). I use a couple of points/rewards credit cards, (mostly American Express) for almost every purchase I make and then pay off the balances at the end of the month. I visit my credit union about four times a year.— October 15, 2016 8:48 a.m.
Layoffs at Stone Brewing
The expansion is so ambitious. Building in Germany is so "in your face." The "beer oriented hotel." Greg Koch and his arrogant attitude and self-promotion... "I'll never sell out!" This company is either having a major capital problem because of its manic expansion or it is packaging itself for sale. Growing companies do not start cutting staff in a "realignment." I've been around to know that this is just a simple case of "bad news" and the news will probably not get better for a long time before it gets good. Unless they are bowing at the alter of a big beer money buyout. If that happens, you know who can go to hell.— October 14, 2016 10:03 p.m.
Will Wikileak on Hillary leave puddle?
I am amused by this spectacle. The Republicans want to abolish the Environmental Protection Agency. It was Richard Nixon that established the EPA. The final presidential debate will be in Las Vegas. If I were Hillary, I would ask Donald "that everyone knows the house always wins.... why Donald, did yours always lose?" Three bankrupt casinos in Atlantic City. It can be attributed to risk taking, but also incredibly poor judgment.— October 9, 2016 8 p.m.
Deputy roughs up SDSU religion professor
Things could improve at the Sheriff office if the voters would stop re-electing Gore and replace him with someone who is a talented leader and has ethics. Gore has been a horrible sheriff and he needs to go. The list of ethical questions is a mile long for Gore. The bottleneck is always at the top of the bottle.— October 8, 2016 7:46 p.m.
Chargers, mayor, U-T collude on con job
I tried to edit my comment but I was too late. The thing that is scary is that so many of Faulconer supporters are also supporters of Donald Trump. Does Faulconer realize that? He waited this long to show his true colors as yet another bought & sold insider, when is he going to endorse a presidential candidate? I have to say that in all the years I have lived in San Diego (since 1969) this is without a doubt the dumbest mayor we have ever had. The dumbest. SMH I know Jerry Sanders is a slice or two short of a loaf, but Faulconer makes Sanders seem brilliant.— October 7, 2016 9:26 p.m.
Chargers, mayor, U-T collude on con job
San Diego, why do you keep electing and re-electing stupid mayors like Faulconer? He is dumb as a bag of hammers. Yet he ran unopposed. People say they want "change" yet they re-elect a boring, do-nothing mayor again. I guess we get what we deserve.— October 7, 2016 8:59 p.m.
7500 Africans and Haitians without money or housing in Tijuana
Hey Mexico! How does it feel to be invaded? They are your's to keep. We don't need ny more uneducated, unskilled, illiterate migrants. Have fun with them because we are not accepting any more. Make sure to tell them we are going to deport them. Because they may decide to stay in your welcoming country and work. Haven't they been watching the news? Oh, that's right, they don' understand English. But whether Donald Trump gets elected or not, we are SHIPPING THEM ALL BACK TO HAITI.— October 7, 2016 8:57 p.m.
7500 Africans and Haitians without money or housing in Tijuana
Some proponents of out-of-control immigration cite the Statue of Liberty and that "immigrants built this nation..." Well times have changed since millions of migrants came through Ellis Island. Back then, America needed labor to grow its economy. Unskilled labor was needed for operating factory machines and other low-skilled jobs. Today, America does not need unskilled labor. Particularly unskilled labor that can't even read in their native language and have high birth rates. America outsources to low-wage countries, we automate what we can here. Being flooded with unskilled, uneducated, illiterate, third-world migrants damages our economy because it stresses the welfare state that was created for citizens, not for refugees. Churches, non-profits (that actually profit for every nose they can bring into the country) don't continue their support. They unload them onto our social safety net. This reduces the amount of services that veterans, disabled citizens, homeless and other can use because it is being diverted to people who have no history of employment or service in the United States. We have to turn our back of THEM because for everyone of them that we accept, we are turning our backs on one of our OWN. Mexico needs to protect *their* borders because the time is coming when the U.S. is not going to accept this flood of undesirables come hell or high water. It's Trump this election cycle, but if he doesn't win, mark my words there will be people to fill his shoes to stop this insanity once and for all. Even if it means a bloody revolt.— October 6, 2016 8:17 p.m.
Congressman stands up for vapers' rights
Duncan Hunter is a clown that needs to be recalled or never elected to any public office again. Vaping in the chambers of congress, embezzling money for private use from his campaign funds, supporting Donald Trump. What a hack. I have to believe that the people that voted for this clown were used to voting for his dad and didn't know his son was replacing him.— October 6, 2016 8:06 p.m.
