Nathan, hot dog
If the low-information voters could elect someone so utterly unqualified as Kristin Gaspar, Fletcher should be a shoe-in.— January 31, 2017 7:20 p.m.
Groundhog Day meaningless in San Diego
The woodchuck is going to see Trumps shadow and return to his hole for the 4-year winter.— January 31, 2017 7:14 p.m.
Trump goes swamp fishing
I'd still rather have Pence because at least we know where he's coming from and he has governed.— January 31, 2017 3:58 p.m.
Trump goes swamp fishing
It's too bad the president is not required to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before being able to be sworn in. It's ironic that hundreds of thousands of his charges (Federal employees) have had to undergo extensive background checks and mental health evaluations before employment. A few psychiatric professionals have broken the "Goldwater Rule" in calling out Trump as having borderline personality disorders and narcissistic personality disorder. One said his behavior resembles psychotic delusional disorder; "a person experiencing delusional disorder strongly believes in things that are not real." Is it possible that Trump may become the first president to be removed from office by congress under Section 4 of the 25th Amendment? That may be the most expedient move the legislative branch can take to curb more damage to the republic.— January 29, 2017 5:44 p.m.
Qualcomm accused of illegal scheme
Apple has a market cap 10 x Qualcomm. In a galaxy far, far away I was a plaintiff in a class action lawsuit against Apple for unfair trade complaints. I was young, the youngest Apple dealer. Apple's lawyer said to me "you file a complaint, we respond. You spend a dollar, we spend $10. Whoever runs out of money first, loses."— January 25, 2017 11:53 p.m.

Apple likes to sue. But I think they will win. Qualcomm is a monopoly. But a necessary monopoly because tehnology is very complicated and somebody has to be the big guy in the room that sets and enforces standards. And that is who Qualcomm is. Qualcomm asks for punitive payments if the customer also purchases IP or IC from a competitor of Qualcomm. Apple is just doing the best for their shareholders and trying to recover payments they don't feel were earned.— January 24, 2017 10:02 p.m.

The last days of Anthony’s
Candice, thank you for your farewell lunch (so I don't have to). I thought about going before they close. I did that the day before the old downtown library closed. I'm glad I did that. Anthony's seems to have given up 10 years ago. They didn't update their menu or their interior. They once had locations in La Jolla (UTC), Rancho Bernardo and the waterfront in Chula Vista, even a 'fishette' in Kearny Mesa. I dined at all of them. Now there is one restaurant left in La Mesa. I have not read why the business has collapsed, because 56 years of goodwill should be worth something. I suspect family members had other ideas and went in different directions. Like when the Boll Weevil chain disintegrated years ago.— January 23, 2017 12:35 p.m.
NFL supposedly upset with Chargers' move
I'm not qualified to answer. There are so many ways to use (and abuse) trusts, no answer can be made without having all the numbers, ownership structure and beneficiary objectives. Spanos has the money to hire the best estate planning attorneys. A good study would be the Kansas City Chiefs where the Hunt family used a trust to transfer the ownership from father to son.— January 23, 2017 12:25 p.m.
