Mass shutdown of Tijuana's Chinese restaurants
Some people must have better immunity to bugs than others. I have enjoyed “crossing south” over the years and usually never had any problems. Last year I spent a long weekend in the Valle de Guadalupe and enjoyed food at some of the highest rated establishments. Upon returning home, I became almost deathly ill. I remained in bed in, unable to keep food down for a week. Worse than a flu and it drained me physically. Perhaps it was my fault, I trusted the ice water and I had some oysters on the half-shell. I did not eat street food, I was only eating at the resort restaurants and some of the most popular dining places in the wine country. I still like Mexico, and plan to visit again, but I would never eat Chinese food. That stuff is nasty enough here in San Diego.— February 2, 2018 6:46 p.m.
Lovejoy and McDavid plead innocence before prison
If she goes to Chino she can trade recipes with Betty Broderick. Or if Chowchilla has room for her, she might meet Kristin Rossum or former Carlsbad resident, Julie Harper.— February 2, 2018 11:05 a.m.

tronc to San Diego: drop dead?
Since I no longer subscribe to the LA Times or SDUT, I try to read them online. They have a "pay wall" and make it hard to read stories. But here's a suggestion. Use Google's Chrome browser and right-click on the link to "open link in incognito window" and read away. These folks in IT at tronc aren't very bright. I've seen small dailies stop my incognito reading because their website detects it and stops it from opening the story. Not tronc, they have no clue.— January 31, 2018 6:39 p.m.
tronc to San Diego: drop dead?
Alex, I am usually amused at your posts. I still get a daily paper, The Wall Street Journal, and a weekly, Barron's. I did cancel the LA Times and SDUT last year... when I was 58. I don't feel older than dirt though.— January 31, 2018 6:34 p.m.
The casino's been built — Jamul is still fighting it
The casino sucks. Just read the Yelp reviews about this trashy place. If the activists want to close this place down, I have a couple of suggestions. First is to boycott the restaurant partners and ask them to withdraw from the casino. That means boycotting Emerald Seafood, Tony Gwinn’s Sports Pub, Ruby’s Diner, and others. Also get organized to sue the crap out of the place for any DUI injuries or deaths resulting from a visit to their casino. Complain to the California ABC about suspected drunk drivers and call the sheriff every time you see any driver leaving that place that does anything that could be probable cause for drunk driving. Don’t give up your fight. Use every legal tool and resource to disrupt its business and ultimately make it close. Already people don’t like it. The people that do must be addicted gamblers because there are so many other much more attractive and full-service (hello buffet?) casinos in San Diego. This isn’t about racism or supporting tribes, it’s about a monstrosity that is in the wrong place at the wrong time. It never belonged there and it will be put out of business and bulldozed in due time.— January 31, 2018 6:28 p.m.
