City Council Unanimously in Favor of Urban Agriculture Amendments
There are two kinds of setbacks mentioned here. The first is the "all required setbacks". These vary by zone. Once this becomes law --- council still has to have a second reading and the mayor still has to review and sign it --- there will be a handout that'll have a number you can call at the City. You give them your address and they can tell you what zone you're in and what the setbacks are. For a lot that is 50' x 100', they're typically 4' on each side and a bit more off the back, especially if there is an alley. The other setback mentioned is that you have to keep the coop 15' from your neighbor's property. So if you have between 5 and 15 hens, you'll need to check to see whether the 15' or the "all required setbacks" are greater.— February 1, 2012 11:07 a.m.
