John Moores sinks Padres pay to number 29 of 30 teams
#121: You'd be amazed (actually, not you, if you read and post here) at how quickly concerns (on their part) about the gas plume would go away if the Chargers got the land they wanted. Oh there might be an outcry a few years later about the scandalous cancer rates of residents living there, but the Chargers would plead ignorance and find a way to get someone else to pay for the damage (after slandering the victims, no doubt). There will be no clean-up of the Qualcomm site. But then, they'd have to find people who would WANT to live next to (1) a football stadium and (2) the intersection of TWO major freeways. I still never understood the logic behind putting retail and residential on the site of the Q. Mission Valley does not need more retail... And Don, I enjoyed bratwurst at a number of Chargers games I tg'ed at in the early 1990s (when you could buy tickets for $25-$30).— August 29, 2009 10:16 a.m.
John Moores sinks Padres pay to number 29 of 30 teams
Los Angeles isn't going to get an NFL team anytime soon. They'll have to lay out around $1Billion, at least, and the city doesn't have that kind of cash. Besides- they have USC, UCLA, and the Lakers- they're not hurting for sports teams. Nor are the Chargers leaving for much the same reason- no city is going to cough up the cash for them. As for Eli Manning... anyone think he could have led a team to the Superbowl against the competition in the AFC? The fact that he was in the abysmal NFC put him and the Giants in the Superbowl. First among worst.— August 28, 2009 12:23 p.m.
Port of San Diego makes wild proposal for Tenth Avenue terminal
Wasn't this a minor plot point in 'Arrested Development'? Building land on the ocean to build stuff on? It would be an engineering marvel if they could pull it off as advertised (and not, as planned as a land grab), but such concepts and "San Diego" are mutually exclusive.— September 5, 2008 1:31 a.m.
Jack in the Box, Rubio’s, Charlotte Russe, WD-40, and Callaway Golf face a double whammy:
JITB changed their menu up a few years back and got rid of a lot of their smaller items- regular cheeseburgers, apple turnovers, rice bowls... and since I was raised on that stuff, I've never felt the need to go there as much. The larger patties are too much- when did small go out of style? Are there any JITB employees around that can shed light on that corporate strategy?— August 29, 2008 12:47 a.m.
San Diego Is Chargers' Problem
I still don't believe the Chargers will ever leave San Diego- Stadium or no stadium. The city is too easy to bilk and rob. I don't see another city (or market as big) being as pliant as San Diego.— August 8, 2008 4:44 a.m.
Will and I got married for the extra $1452 Navy pay
As ex-Army, I always thought Barracks living was bad enough (musical-chair roommates, communal living, "Hey You" details, etc)... I almost feel kind of sorry for those on ships. Barracks may suck, but it doesn't drive as many to marriage (there's like a whole percent or two less guys getting married for Army BAH. maybe.)— May 8, 2008 2:44 a.m.
San Diego plays big role in Field of schemes
One thing not mentioned about The Raiders' move to Oakland in 1995 was that it was hard on the heels of a State Wide sales tax increase designed to pay for earthquake reconstruction and upgrades in Oakland the rest of the Bay Area. Yes, despite sustaning hundreds of millions in damages, Oakland found hundreds of millions to pay Al Davis... Wonder where that money came from. And wasn't that temporary increase made permanent? .... Don't worry, Seattle just proved a city can be smart to the machinations of billionaire owners: it's costing them the Sonics, but they're saving billions and, it's only the Sonics. Chula Vista is going to fall apart for the Chargers and SD still doesn't have the money for a new stadium. And somehow, I don't think they'll leave.— April 11, 2008 3:07 a.m.
