Brave new parking meters for Hillcrest, Mission Hills
The Hillcrest Business Association/Hillcrest Parking Committee wants more metered parking along the north side of University. They believe the turn over created by meters will make for more parking for their over 1,200 small businesses. Where will the folks who were using those spaces to park all day for free now park their cars? On residential streets where neighbors and their guests already struggle to find parking? Some residents in our over 100-year-old neighborhood live above retail in the core of Hillcrest, who live in bungalow courts, who live in apartment houses have no onsite parking at all. These residents would like to park near their homes...just like the business association members would like to have parking near their businesses for their customers and employees. Should those who rent and own homes in Hillcrest be able to have "residential parking permits"? Attend the Uptown Parking District meeting on Monday, January 9 at 5pm in the Joyce Beers Community Center (near Panera and Trader Joes). Participate in the discussion. Residents have two Hillcrest representatives (Tim Gahagan and Roy Dahl) on the board. Will they be supportive of residents? Will representatives from the Hillcrest Business Association listen to and be sympathetic to residents needs? Come find out.— December 30, 2016 9:56 a.m.
