The Heart of Rock & Roll goes flat line
Posted this elsewhere, but worth repeating and expanding: This review is ridiculous. The San Diego reader has another review that actually raves about the story, so clearly this guy has his panties in a wad. (see below for link). For reference, I saw the musical during previews and liked it so much I returned with friends. To start with, this guy's examples aren't even correct. Is fact checking not a thing anymore? The lead doesn't get a job 'just like that' - the story starts 2 years later. Did you not get that in any of the people saying 'it's been 2 years'? And they changed the lines of the songs a few times. The dad (who works in a small family business, not some big corporate money making job) says 'I get a check on Friday, but I'M already spent' not 'IT'S already spent'. So suggesting the song is a suck-up to the backers it's (as you put it) idiotic. For a critic, you missed quite a few points. Maybe I know Huey's songs well enough to have noticed the difference, but my assumption is you do too if you were able to quote them. This is such a shameful review, I'm actually embarrassed. All the other jukebox musicals that have passed through SD (and I've seen them all) have had issues and rushed to Broadway without being ready, only to be cancelled in less than a year. This musical is ACTUALLY good. It's not that complicated of a story, nor is it worth such unnecessary bashing, it's just fun. You get an escape from all the crap going on in the world to have 2 hours of fun that leave you pumped in the end. AND the story is VERY relatable for people my age (under the age of 50). Maybe this guy is too old to know what it's like to have to struggle between your dreams and reality, but it's very much something people I know have struggled with time and again. Do I continue to follow my dreams even if it's costing me the life I want, or do I settle for the 'safe' path even if it leaves me unfulfilled? It plagues a lot of people and I found myself very connected to it. I'm not one to bash people online, but this guy's an idiot. Sorry. Read the other SD Reader review. https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2018/oct/04/t…— October 5, 2018 10:44 a.m.

This short review is ridiculous. Don't listen to this guy. The San Diego reader has another review that actually raves about the story, so clearly this guy has his panties in a wad.
