The Biddy
Terrible, isn't it? Some of our brightest kids fell through the cracks.— March 2, 2009 3:04 p.m.
Last Chance Homeless
No good deed goes unpunished. Okay, I saw Last Chance Harvey and was REALLY disturbed by the daughter's treatment of her father. He just did not deserve to be left out of everything. Yesterday I went to see Milk. As much as I have commented on Sean Penn, I have to say he owned that role. Wow! Now, get this - the tiger that Seigfried and Roy used was the SAME tiger that mauled Roy. There was a blurb in the paper about it today.— March 2, 2009 11:17 a.m.
Hay for the Gourmet
Aww. I love rabbits. We take them out on our Pet Assisted Therapy visits for the SD Humane Society. They are so cute and people love them. We have one that actually puts his front paws on people's chest and nuzzles their faces. They have special care needs and I wish more people knew what they were getting into before getting a rabbit as a pet. It's not hard at all, but people think the rabbits can take care of themselves, and that is just not the case. Most get them around Easter, and are done by summer's end. They make fantastic pets, if any readers are interested in adopting one.— February 27, 2009 7:41 p.m.
A sampling of San Diego's vanity license plates
I saw a cute one today on my walk through Sunset Cliffs. It said (heart) SSCLFFS. I guess you can get seven letters and a heart! Or maybe it only had one F. I don't know the rules. I've never had a personalized plate. My husband's name is John. I was thinking about "THE JOHN" for him. He didn't think it was as funny as I do.....— February 27, 2009 7:10 p.m.
Racism in the News
The flaming bag of poop would have been a better prezzie. I am curious as well, rickeysays, how Josh B. is wrong about the cartoon.— February 27, 2009 6:56 p.m.
Oscar Re-Cap
The "octumom"?!? I just got that! Funny. Okay, celebrities are in the business for fame and money. I don't think Sean Penn is all that bright, but he is a damn good actor. Which is my point. He was still in character at the Oscars. There is a certain hypocrisy in most actors, a sort of a do as I say, not as I do mentality. They are deluded about their importance, and their ability to sway the gullible public when they spout their political views. Unfortunately, those that do not read or educate themselves on current events take what celebrities tout as gospel. I just happen to agree with him this time, but not because he is Sean Penn. I made my own decision. Michael Moore. What can I say? The guy is a perfect example. When he pays 85% of his salary to the government, so will I. But I love his movies. He does a great job. Did you see Team America? They parodied that celebrity arrogance perfectly.— February 27, 2009 5:33 p.m.
Sketch Artists, Homeless, and Jobless.
That was a well written piece.— February 27, 2009 8:37 a.m.
Oscar Re-Cap
I'm not so sure. It may not be about the money, but it is definitely about the attention. But enough of my pontificating... Yeah, who the hell DOES marry Madonna?!? Why buy the cow?!? Jeesh. She's the one that stands to lose, anyway. Again, celebrity insecurity.— February 26, 2009 7:16 a.m.

Castro KILLED them. Sean Penn keeps pontificating (love that word!) because he won an Oscar, and his movie will now make more money. Especially in the gay community. Every gay person I know cannot wait to see this movie now (if they have not already) and Penn's politics (or lack thereof) be damned. After Prop 8 passed, I do not blame the gay community for looking for a famous spokesperson to champion a cause that should not even be an issue at this time in history. And Sean Penn of all people! He is taking advantage of the gay community's need for a famous Norma Rae, and the timing could not have been more perfect to promote his film. End of story.— February 25, 2009 5:10 p.m.
Abortionist Bertha Bugarin heads to jail
The real crime is why women have to resort to this barbaric procedure performed by unlicensed monsters who are doing them for financial gain. Women should have access to a full range of reproductive health options, including, yes, a safe, legal abortion.— February 25, 2009 5 p.m.
