The opening paragraph makes it sound like the hotel was closed from 1961 until 2010, which could not be further from the truth. I moved to San Diego in 1987 and it has been open and operational the whole time I've been here. I've stayed there numerous times over the years and made use of it for out of town guests, too. The 2010 upgrade is to fix some longstanding issues, restore other things, revamp the bar area and give it historical status. I don't remember this being in Top Gun ...
