Health Care should be my Generation’s issue – but it is not
I am amazed at the naive view the youngest voters have. You think that because you have partaken in you employer's healthcare plan, somehow you have "done your part." I have a son your age, and to be honest he shares your same naive view of health insurance. A public option gives the government control on what care to give you based on age and future productivity. When I decide to buy health insurance I pick from a group of services that "I" deem that I need or want, and then I pay for it. This is a contract between me and my insurance company, if that contract is violated I have legal recourse. HIPPA in all 50 states prevents people from being denied care based on that contract. Under what the government wants to do, is to make the decisions based on what they want to pay for, not on what you paid to get. They make the decisions, because they think THEY are paying the bill, which is a silly assumption, the government has no money of their own, only what they take from us. Now let's assume you don't like the decision the government has made on your care on your behalf. There will be NO legal recourse, their decision will be final. Your assumption that if you don't like your health care through your employer, you will be able to change it. Well that is false, if you decide to leave your group insurance you will fall into the government insurance, whether you want to or not. Reading and understanding HR 3200 is what you should base your article on, not the talking heads from either side.— October 7, 2009 7:19 a.m.
