Man Attacks Puppy
Sweet Fanny Adams! If this is how this sleazebucket "punishes" his pets, then he does not deserve to have custody of even a dessicated cockroach! That chump is going to have to learn a new sport in the county lockup: keeping cheesed-off prisoners from turning him into Alpo! Hope somebody adopts the little fella real soon--Labs are real sweeties!— February 25, 2010 11:32 a.m.
Starting The New "Vista Blues"...and other things.
Okaaay... Just got set up here at the Vista Public Library, since I am having my apartment gassed for German Brown Cockroaches this morning. Flipped on my magic machine here, activated Netgear (VPL has free broadband service)...and here I am. Now, let's take a look here... 1) Glad to see that a lot of you are happy I have returned to my blog. Me, too...better than sitiing on my backside feeling sorry for myself. 2) Tiger and "The Road To Wellville.": I have seen the movie, but I find the real story about the Battle Creek Sanitarium (on which "Road To Wellville" was based) much more enjoyable. In fact, this topic will be the basis for my next blog entry. I used the term "Road To Wellville" in a bit of a sarcastic sense. 3) Got very little sleep last night, paying for it now. --LPR— February 12, 2010 11:26 a.m.
Bowling and Brawling
VEC's Turf Room isn't my idea of a "meeting place" to begin with. Too small in size, not enough in the way of beverages for those who choose not to drink booze, and way too easy to access from the street w/o bouncer/cooler supervision. Looks like the Alcohol Beverage Control Board might investigate this one. If so, the "Turf Room" might just bite the turf, as in get it's booze permit yanked. No big loss, really--VEC was built more for bowlers, gamers, and the like, not as a place for drunk-stoopid dimwits to try to stomp all comers into toothpaste, including Sheriff's Deputies. I like Smitty's Downtown much better, anyway. You can't beat the location, especially if you have the "FEED ME, SEYMORE!" syndrome that comes with imbibing a few too many brews (there's now a Sonic Drive-Thru across the street). Plus, if you take a taxi home, it's easier for the cabbies to find it. So be it. LPR— February 5, 2010 1:06 p.m.
Hot for Pot
Better "America's Finest City" for SD than some of the alternatives, especially ones for cities up here in North County. Try these for size: (Oceanslime) Oceanside--"Where The Crime Meets The Grime and The W@%$* Works The Shore!" Bakersfeild--"Uh, dude, I don't think we're in LA anymore!" (Escondoodoo) Escondido--"No habla Espanol, muchacho--Vamanos! Hanford--"Here we party like it's 1959!" Armona--"Water that you can smell from ten miles away!" Children's Pool, La Jolla--"Just when you thought it was safe to take your little ones into the water (insert "Theme From JAWS" here)..." Might think of a few more later. The Anti-Sonic Burger
When I was a tyke, my folks would take us (my sis and I) to see our paternal grandparents. At the time, they lived in Buttevile at "The Lazy J, which overlooks the Willamette River. Anyhoo, for after-church lunch, we'd pile into the GMC Blazer (they made them back in the 1960's-late 1970's) for a trip to A&W. The root beer was great, the burgers were delish, and the service was rather nice--albeit it was car-hop service. We also had an Arctic Circle in town (Foghorn Leghorn brandishing a "Circle-A" branding iron was it's mascot), and a Burgerville USA in Salem. FYI, in the early-to-mid 1980's, there was a Sonic in Oceanside, in the Mission Marketplace. I go there sometimes for a limeade, but they closed down in 1988. My recepie for Grilled Cheeseburgers: 1 lb of ground meat 2 eggs 4 buns 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded Seasoned Salt, to taste Lemon Pepper, to taste Worchestershire Sauce, to taste. Hunt's ketchup Guilden's Brown Mustard. 1. Activate Grill. 2. Combine meat, eggs, shredded cheese, and seasonings in a large bowl. Form into patties and place in refridegerator until ready to cook. 3. When ready, spray grill with lecithin spray, then put patties on grill. Cook each side for ten minutes, depending on thickness. 4 As you are cooking, put ketchup and mustard on bun faces. 5. After cooking, serve hot. In place of ketchup and mustard, use whatever condiments you desire. But check with your guests before you slather on the sauce--anaphylatic shock from a food allergy will wreck any backyard cookout! Schmekt gut, nein? --RKJ— November 16, 2009 3:54 p.m.
Mass Transit Cuts
I cut my blogging eye-teeth on this issue up here in North County. Now it's gotten where NCTD is considering outsourcing it's bus fleet to First Transit of Ohio. Drivers, maintenence, office workers...they all will be working for a new boss, with less in wages and bennies. The union that represents NCTD and MTS drivers are plenty steamed...but that's not going to change diddly/squat. With the current "anti-union" climate here in San Diego County, sympathy for the drivers isn't easy to find. The Public Be Damned? The Public IS Damned, according to MTS and NCTD! --RKJ— November 16, 2009 3:15 p.m.
Eligible Violators
Before one leaves the tavern or nightclub, a trip to the piddle-parlor beats getting a citaton and community service for letting it rip behind a Dumpster. Trying to clean stale wee-wee off of a stoop or a trash container is a lunch-losing process involving lots of bleachwater, scrubbing, and some ground kitty litter to finish the job (the abrasive grinds out the color). Add to that the fact that human piddle also kills grass and sickens trees...like I said before, put a visit to the piddle-parlor on your "to-do" list before you go out into the night! (BTW, you can guess why I'm using "baby-language" to describe the effluent-at-hand...I don't need to be called a "potty-mouth" for using the four-lettered version of the word! LMAO!) --RKJ— November 16, 2009 3:06 p.m.
San Marcos' Smoke Signals
What is it with the electeds, anyhoo? I know that tobacco use isn't good for anyone, but are the smokers among us now merely second-class citizens because of their habit? Are we going to let CPS start yanking kids out of the homes of smokers, never to return? Frankly, folks, the whole "Demon Smoke" issue has been played out before with booze and street drugs--and look what THAT got us! Do we want to be the living example of Satayana's teachings regarding the lessons of history? For if we do, then the phrase "I could kill for a Winston" will take on a whole new meaning--and a sadder one at that! Prohibition--an idea whose time needs to remain in the mists of Time, never to return! --RKJ— November 15, 2009 7:02 p.m.
Stepping Out After Midnight...In Vista Ranch
Thanks for the comments, folks! I love getting them...even though opening the "Comments" box can make me a bit queasy. What will I see...kind words, or a cheesed off mob with lit torches and blood in their eyes? SD: In case you are wondering, Marvin's Egg Market is a combination bodega/pizza shop/Mexican Food restaurant. It also handles check cashing, which is important, since it sits in the middle of Board-And-Care Country. It was once referred to as merely "Egg Market," due to the fact that it not only served as a bodega, but also had the freshest eggs in Outskirts Vista. A Escondido Police officer (named Marvin) bought the place, added a pizza shop and Mexican Food take-out shop, and put in a butcher shop as well. --RKJ— November 5, 2009 10:28 a.m.
