Watchdog Institute Puzzles Union-Tribune Staffers
I disagree with your statement, Mr. Bauder, when you "doubt that U-T deliberately published numbers that it knew were too high". They acknowledged that they did not parse out the specifics of the pay (tuition, mileage, overtime, etc. reimbursements) because they didn't want to pay to cover the costs ($1900) of having the information sorted out in a way that broke that information down. The UT would rather that the taxpayers pick up that cost for them, so instead they published numbers that are not accurate and numbers that are misleading. Individuals seeking information from the city often have to cover the costs (allowed under the California Public Records Act), so why should the UT be exempt?— July 1, 2009 9:25 p.m.
Waring Named to Housing Commission by 6-2 Vote
Response to #11: This will probably be a shock to people, but you're quite mistaken. I am still curious about who "some" are from my original post.— June 10, 2009 6:59 p.m.
Waring Named to Housing Commission by 6-2 Vote
"...some have called a litmus test of the corruption level of the current council..." Who are the some? And quite a diverse spectrum of voices who are now considered 'corrupt by some'. Did you even watch the hearing, Mr. Bauder? I thought Mr. Waring did a good job of explaining his actions and why he wanted to serve the city (in an unpaid position as one of several people on a commission where he would, again, be one of several).— June 9, 2009 10:16 p.m.
City's Pension Fund Returns Compare Poorly with Those of Peers

City's Pension Fund Returns Compare Poorly with Those of Peers
I am not totally convinced that bogglesthemind works where s/he says s/he does since that's not the name of the department.— April 9, 2009 7:22 p.m.
