Who Watches the UCAN Watchdog?
"While Inactive, you are still a member of the State Bar and entitled to all of the benefits of membership, except you are not eligible to practice law in California or vote in the Board of Governors' election." While I agree I'm surprised by this revelation, especially by a person whose whole career has been advocating for others. I too was very surprised to read about the level of his compensation. It seems greed has once again clouded good judgement and common sense, causing controversy and tarnishing the reputation of the individual and organization to say the very least. It also can't be about fees and the continuing education time requirements. ...Under the Bar rules, members on voluntary Inactive status do not have to accumulate MCLE hours during the period of time that they are on Inactive status, and they are not required to report compliance to the State Bar. I'm just wondering, what's his side of this story?— July 27, 2011 9:22 a.m.
Will Sleep on Floor for Comic-Con 2012 Tickets
Let the scalping for the 2013 Convention begin! Let's hope the CC's BOD comes up with some technology to prevent "resellers" from getting the vast majority of available tickets when the tickets go on sale.— July 26, 2011 4:28 p.m.

Man Splashed Gasoline on Ex-Wife in Oceanside
Puppster...you're wrong, it's a wobbler, Felony or Misd...Section 422PC. It used to be called terrorist threats, now its Criminal Threats. The prosecutors may file it as either a misdemeanor or a felony. If you are convicted of the misdemeanor , you face up to one year in a county jail. If you are convicted of the felony , you face up to four years in the California state prison. And, it counts as a strike! In this instance, the overt acts of dousing the victim with gasoline, is substantially more than a threat written via, lets say email. I have no doubt the victim was in fear of her life when the suspect displayed a lighter. Even if the lighter was non functional, it makes no difference. If someone threatened me by throwing gasoline on me, then pulled out a lighter, I have no problem whatsoever using deadly force. It would be akin to a suspect pulling out a toy gun and pointing it at an officer, he, or she, is gonna get shot.— July 23, 2011 1:14 p.m.
City to Renew Cleaning Contract at Qualcomm Stadium
First off I have absolutely against the Jehovah's Witnesses and appreciate that the come to San Diego for their annual confab. But what's this about the City trading cleaning services for rent? There was a story back in May of this year where the wrote the following: Once a year for nearly three decades, the city of San Diego has put Qualcomm Stadium into thousands of Witnesses' latex-gloved hands for as thorough a cleansing as it ever receives. The Witnesses turn our playground into their church. The cleaning comes before the Witnesses' annual convention, a time when tens of thousands come together in prayer, baptism and song. The Witnesses wipe away the filth amassed after a year of football games and monster truck rallies and replace it with the smell of bleach. They show Qualcomm the care, given its age and rundown state, we never have. They give it the work that the city might not have ever been able to afford, all in exchange for free rent for their big event. See the Voice of San Diego article here: http://www.voiceofsandiego.org/government/thehall… If we the taxpayers are paying over two million dollars to have the stadium cleaned after events what are the Jehovah's Witnesses doing and why? And what's this statement about it not being clean. What's the two million dollars if not to have a clean facility?— July 16, 2011 1 p.m.
What war economy would do for San Diego
Gotta agree with Fredo.... With San Diego's geography covering the very S/W corner of the U.S.A. there will always be a substantial military presence here. We may have seen it's peak considering the nation's debt issues, but it will always be here. One of the indicators supporting this conclusion is the extensive and continued building projects on, and upgrades to, USMCAS Miramar and Camp Pendleton. Not to mention the stationing of some of the Navy's newest and most advanced ships.— July 14, 2011 9:59 p.m.
National City to Allow Sale of Three-Packs
More nanny government and fewer liberties! Now the government tells me how many, or how few beers I can buy at one time. This is ridiculous! With all the financial problems our representatives have been party to, you'd think they'd devote their time and efforts to fixing those problems. Instead we get inane comments from Louis Natividad about trusting others. What a crock! Our liberties continue the slide down the slippery slope, when there are already plenty of laws on the books to regulate us. Soon we won't be able to do anything without the government deciding if its good or bad for us. Don't feel bad though, feel bad for your grandchildren they're the ones who loose the freedom of choice.— July 6, 2011 3:06 p.m.
Hallelujah! NFL Admits Football Has No Economic Impact
I believe most already knew this, but chose not to say it out loud. This would be especially true for our politician and so called city leaders who, in San Diego's case, have been out maneuvered, out negotiated and just plain out lawyered by sophisticated businessmen. You certainly don't become multi-millionaires, mini-billionaires by spending your money, you do it by using other peoples money for your advantage. It's too bad Redevelopment Agencies didn't die with the Gov. Browns budget. Maybe San Diegans will wake up and realized they've wasted millions on millionaire players and owners.— July 4, 2011 9:30 a.m.
CO Detector Law Takes Effect
So cynical! It's just more nanny government. Soon you won't to do anything without the government's okay. If this continues, the only thing left to do will be to pray for our children's children! For their lives, unlike ours, will be drab gray, because the government will outlaw the use of color, controlled because the government will outlaw creativity, and less joyful, because the government will take all their earning because it know better than you. Free choice will be a dim memory or stories of times now gone forever.— July 2, 2011 7:54 a.m.
