In six days the UT ends SignonSandiego.com as its been known for years. Instead they'll published the Eedition of the SDUT, an identical copy of the published version. While signonsandiego.com has been free for years, I suspect the new Eedition will not be... it will just another way for the SDUT to claim additional readers than the 1.15 million they claim now-a-days. — October 26, 2009 12:09 p.m.
Supreme Court Justice Asks: Who Passed Bribe?
Don...I thought the spin stopped here. In hindsight I suspect you did not intentionally want to suggest JohnnyV is an Internet Troll when you posted the definition. But then you did go on and tell Johnny to defend himself of the accusation. What would reasonable people think? Especially in the context of that thread. Besides, you didn't ask, nor tell, any of the others who post comments to defend themselves now did you.— November 5, 2009 2:05 p.m.
Supreme Court Justice Asks: Who Passed Bribe?
Careful JohnnyV is getting all riled up again. Well we know two things about it, makes the reading here all that more interesting and JohnnyV thrives on the attention generated from his posts, no matter how outrageous or trollish. Don, remember what you said about some previous posts: “An Internet troll is one who posts inflammatory or inaccurate information just go get others excited. Johnny, defend yourself.” Remember Don, from a City Lights News Story published, Dec. 30, 2008. Gotta agree with Fred, he never said it was a defense, merely posed a legitimate question regarding the treatment of elected or well connected versus others who are not.— November 5, 2009 7:29 a.m.

So Johnny is what you're saying is this is not a case of selective prosecution? What about the guarantees under the 14th Amendment? While I'll agree using the defense of selective prosecution rarely, if ever is successful the lives of these six defendants, the levels of stress they've endured over the past five years will take its toll on all of them. Besides this is not their defense. The fact is there are exceptions to the §1090 statute that support their position. With briefs filed from all over the state supporting the defendants' position I suspect the Court has another hot potato in its hands. The ruling will be interesting to say the least.— November 4, 2009 8:15 p.m.
Local Lead Indicators Continue Rising
As the Obama Administration moves the nation towards a European styled socialism, billions, if not trillions, of dollars of other peoples money must be spent to reach his goal. As you mentioned the stimulus monies will continue at least through November 2010 and the general elections. I'm just wondering, as Margaret Thatcher did so many years ago, what happens after we run out of other people's money?— October 28, 2009 7:22 a.m.

With the purchase price of the UT empire below the value of its real estate holding there doesn't seem to be much risk to Platinum Equity Partners, no matter where the investors are rooted. We, as San Diegans, should keep our fingers crossed that the rhetoric by Mr. Moss comes to pass. Hopefully, Platinum is working to restore the SDUT's footing and professionalism, while striving to regain its past reputation as an honest daily periodical. For the last several years this sad and declining publication has not served the general public or the paying subscribers well.— October 2, 2009 2:18 p.m.

Well I see Pascal doesn't like the "a day" and "here to stay" rhymne, he, or she, doesn't disagree that the SDUT has lost its way. While the SDUT may to here to stay, if it doesn't change it way, there no doubt it's major use will be line bird cages and that's all I say.— October 2, 2009 12:09 p.m.

MORE THAN ONE MILLION READERS EVERY WEEK is boldly printed on the masthead every day. Ed Moss, the SDUT new President and Publisher declares on radio ads a million or more readers every day and we're here to stay. Nice rhyme Ed. But here's the problem ED... exaggeration of the facts, like the million readers every week, is why the SDUT has lost its way and subscribers base. Get back to doing the basics; reporting the facts in timely fashion, separating them completely from opinion pieces. Doing the investigative reporting, identifying wrongs, reporting rights and being the people watchdog for government or individual corruption and waste. That's what your readers want, a reliable source of solid, unadulterated news, not the sensational opinion laced rag of a newspaper the SDUT morphed into over the last five to ten years. Get back to being a professional news gathering organization and maybe, just maybe, your claim of millions of readers every month will be true.— October 2, 2009 8:24 a.m.
