Giving to Charity -- The Blood Bank Edition
Well, not having caller ID at home throws people off. They always think I'm going to know it's them, so they talk in that way of...well, that annoying way of jumping right into the conversation without saying "Hey Josh, it's Steve". Or "Hello, can I speak with Josh" or any of those other greetings that people used to do when they called.— August 16, 2009 9:44 p.m.
Babies, Breast Feeding, and More
speaking of Talking Heads...my friend called me a few days ago and said "Don't you like that band, where the guy wears the really big suit?" At first, I had no clue who he was talking about. When I told him I did like them, he said "There movie, True Stories, is at Wal-Mart for $3." So I had him pick it up for me on DVD. I remember liking it when I saw it, although it was a bit weird. If anyones a fan of that film, and isn't opposed to shopping at Wal-Mart, head over for it.— August 16, 2009 9:42 p.m.
Fan Halen
Good one, jhutt. "MA" is going to have to be MIA, since Michael Anthony will be MISSING IN ACTION next time VH tours (that, obviously, standing for Van Halen). Since Anthony sort of sided with Sammy (and now tours with him, in the band Chickenfoot), I'm guessing he's no longer invited to be in VH (which has now realied on WVH....which, is Wolfgang!)— August 16, 2009 11:55 a.m.
The Other McCann
Kriste....thanks for your husband for his service to the country. Fred.....thank you as well. Oh and Pete, The Femmes rule. I'm guessing Fred would love their protest song "Mother Reagan".— August 16, 2009 11:52 a.m.
A Lively Senior Moment
Pete, that's a very good point. I mean, I don't have sympathy for people that lose their license from DUI, only because I don't think it happens with one offense. I know Donte Stallworth just killed someone becuase of a DUI, got a year suspension from the NFL, and can never drive again. Although, he's rich and famous. He can afford limos the rest of his life. But the thing is...I'm guessing the % of people over 70, that can't drive well....is about the same % of folks that can't drive well while talking on their cell phones, and laws were passed that now don't let me do that (although I completely ignore that law, as should everyone else that is able to walk and chew gum at the same time)— August 16, 2009 11:47 a.m.
Golding's Grudge
You're right tiki. I had a blast at the ABC party. One woman had this fancy dress, and she actually made it from the curtains in her home. She said it was an excuse for her husband to have to buy new curtains. And we talked a lot about the Carol Burnett Show, the episode where they parody Gone With the Wind, and she comes down wearing curtains (with the rod across her shoulders). So many interesting conversations, all derived from the things people were wearing. But it's always fun to go to an event where a celebrity is mingling with the crowd. I went to one in Beverly Hills once with McCartney, and it was interesting to watch people like Larry King, Whoopi Goldberg, Mick Fleetwood, and Jay Leno, trying to get close to Sir Paul. The "regular folks" were just happy with Paul smiling, nodding, or shaking their hands. It was the other famous people, that wanted to monopolize his time. I wanted to say to Larry King "You just interviewed him the other day. Back off and let some of us talk to the man."— August 16, 2009 11:44 a.m.
Jaymz Dare, Joey Harris, and Revenge Club
Revenge Club is so great live. I got them for the second time, opening for the Lovemakers and the Muffs at the Casbah Saturday. As always, they were amazing. Even though most of the crowd wasn't there yet, they rocked. And the ones that were there earlier, were glad they were.— August 16, 2009 11:39 a.m.
A Lively Senior Moment
I wouldn't drive them around, unless they promised to not soil my leather car seats. But, I wouldn't mind giving more money in taxes, to have a system that shuttles them around to places they need to go (or even want to go, like Indian casinos). I'm guessing most over 70, ARE NOT driving well. I've seen too many on the freeway, going 50 miles per hour, or not stopping at stop signs, or so many other various things I read in the paper (at least every few days, there's one running onto a sidewalk or into a building). Just the other day, a 73 year old woman drove down an embankment and died. Not sure how you just drive down an embankment.— August 16, 2009 3:07 a.m.
Giving to Charity -- The Blood Bank Edition
I'm the only person on the planet that doesn't have caller ID on my landline. So, I don't answer if I'm busy. If I'm not, I don't care who calls. I'll be nice to sales people, but I'll quickly try to get them off the phone.— August 16, 2009 3 a.m.
My Bodyguard
My Bodyguard deserves three stars (not to be confused with that lame Kevin Costner movie, The Bodyguard)— August 15, 2009 9:45 p.m.
