Akon or a con?
Good point. It's exactly why, when Alicia Keys wants to blame the "government" for creating gangsta rap, it's as stupid as people that think cops distributed crack cocaine in the ghetto areas. Bill Cosby is the one that always crusades against rappers and how disgusted he was, when he heard a 10-year-old boy walking home from school, singing a rap song that called women "ho's".— April 18, 2008 10:46 a.m.
Dumb Cops (Is That Redundant?)
Well, to answer the question...when my boss asked me to contribute a daily blog, I wasn't sure what I'd write. Do I mention I had Frosted Flakes for breakfast? That I asked out a stewardess, and had a drink thrown on me? Do I talk about a game of basketball I played that afternoon? I thought, I'd do want Andy Rooney does (but with plucked eyebrows...although, nobody sees me online). I'd pick a topic, and bitch about it. It seemed more fun. And, kinda cathardic, when you are stuck in traffic, because of bad drivers watching something on the side of the road. It lets me vent. Yes, it has nothing to do with San Diego law enforcement. But, I think it's a topic that can generate debate and conversation. Which, I think is more interesting then me talking about Pete Rose betting on baseball, when, I'm sure we all agree, that was wrong. I HATE hearing of police officers losing their jobs, after they put years and years in, and risk their lives DAILY. But...I've been on this kick for years, that cops need to learn how to act and treat people. It's been an argument with my stepbrother for years. He thinks cops SHOULD bark orders at people, because it lets everyone know right away, who is the boss. I contend, that often exaserbates the problem, and makes it confrontational, when it doens't have to be. And, I'm a strong believer that...a persons actions, tell us A LOT about the person. How would we ever know if a cop pulled over a gorgeous woman, and she offered him sexual favors, if he'd take it? Or a guy that offered the cop $500 to let him go, if he'd take it. We don't, really. And, most cops would probably refuse both (can't say all...there was one in El Cajon last year, arrested and serving jail time). So, if a cop thinks it's a good idea to wear a KKK mask, I would not for a second, say he's racist. I would say, he's GUILTY of using bad judgement. Nothing more. But, judgement of that kind, is a person I don't want handling a fire arm. Or, making decisions like who gets a ticket and who doesn't. And, when anything can be a PR nightmare for the police....they can make it very easy on themselves. Get rid of people that can't make good decisions.— April 18, 2008 2:14 a.m.
Still Poisonous?
That, was a funny post. Cars singer Ric Ocasek, was giving his supermodel wife Paulina Poriscova (sp?) a hard time for watching the show. He said, "How can you watch this?" She replied, "How can you not?" I read that in People, or some magazine like that. If they were on, and nothing else was on, I'd watch. The people all seemed so damn pathetic, though. I had no problem with that woman, and her "age"....she just seemed like an idiot. Which, means, she's perfect for Bret.— April 17, 2008 9:51 a.m.
Drunk Doufusses
Exactly. And...like I've said before, sometimes the cops do something wrong. But, it doesn't warrant her getting millions out of this. Just like the cop in the Foley case. He ADMITTED thta he never showed his badge to Foley (he should at least get credit for admitting thta). And, he fired a "warning shot" which is not procedure. The police should offer to settle with this woman, for $100,000. And, they can tell her lawyer "If you want anything more, and decide to go to court for it....it will cost you so much in legal fees, and we can bring up so much of her past history, a jury might not award her a single cent."— April 17, 2008 9:47 a.m.
Death by Crutch, Downtown-Style
I enjoy tribute bands, but my musician friends give me crap about that. I fear a Springsteen one would be cheesy. I could just see some short dude, with a five o'clock shadow, jean jacket, and red bandana over his forehead.— April 17, 2008 12:34 a.m.
Talent Doesn't Equal Intelligence
Anyone that believes in conspiracies, well...they usually have a screw or two loose. Especially with the 9/11 situation. Charlie and Martin Sheen, although both very talented actors, have very strange takes on politics and other things.— April 17, 2008 12:32 a.m.
Bang Your Head, Swing Your Hair
Here's more of Rick Lawrence...that didn't make it into the hardcopy of the Reader: The other albums…Invasion of Your Privacy, Detonator, with Loving You is a Dirty Job. I always loved playing the songs. It warmed me up that they started here in San Diego. Some of the band members weren’t from San Diego. Singer Stephen Pearcy started doing his solo thing around 1992, before getting with the band Arcade. I was at Rock 102 then. He’d invite us to the shows, party on the bus afterwards. Things always got out of hand, as they usually do. The last time I saw him, it was his still solo thing, around 1996. I went backstage, at the House of Blues downtown. I gathered up the troops, my wife and stepdaughters, who were thrilled. During the show, I was surprised to see on stage, a guy with his head shaved, except for a big row of spikes down the back of his head. It was Erik Ferentino from Voodoo, a local band I promoted when I did the local show at Rock 102. We went backstage. I took my family with me. We reunited, told old stories and went back onto the tour bus. Frankie, I can’t remember his last name, the guitarist for the band, starts chatting up my older stepdaughter, getting a good groove going on there. I’ve gotten old and gone full circle, and gotten the whole family into this rock ‘n roll scene. I’ll just have to keep an eye out on my girls. I heard Eric’s band, Anti Division, is opening up, so that’s gonna be pretty cool. I’ll bring the family again.— April 16, 2008 12:20 p.m.
Still Poisonous?
Did anyone catch any episodes of Rock of Love? Wow. Talk about train wrecks. And, Brett really came across bad in it. Wigs with bandanas, eyeliner, and stupid lines.— April 16, 2008 8:48 a.m.
Incoming.
Are you joking, Ponz? A little typo on "grenade" and you're busting chops!— April 16, 2008 8:46 a.m.
Death by Crutch, Downtown-Style
I bet this gives Paul McCartney an idea. Hey, speaking of crutches...anyone gonna see Mudcrutch at Viejas? Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, and Benmont. Should be a good show.— April 16, 2008 8:44 a.m.
