McDonald's in the News...and Domestic Abuse
Oh yeah...I don't think Dave and his wife are going to last. He seems like he's difficult. I don't think he was worrying about the "ribbing", he just didn't believe the statistic. And, I can understand someone not believing that stat, because it does sound high. What blew me was that he had never heard it before! That's the one stat we've heard time and time again, since the 70s.— February 24, 2009 9:26 a.m.
Oscar Re-Cap
Well...to me, Obama may say he's against Prop 8, but that's merely because he knows who votes for him. He has said he doesn't think two men should be married (he is religious, after all...and to them, God created Adam & Eve, not "Adam & Steve"). So, he personally DOES NOT want gays to marry.— February 24, 2009 9:24 a.m.
McDonald's in the News...and Domestic Abuse
Good line, MsG. I heard the DJ on KGBs morning show giving his producer a hard time a few months back. It was when he was getting married and the producer said "50% of all marriages end in divorce." He got mad and said that was BS, and asked him "where he heard that?" It was bizarre, because I thought, at this point, everyone has heard that statistic.— February 23, 2009 9:22 a.m.
McDonald's in the News...and Domestic Abuse
What I'm saying blue...is WE SHOULD discuss it. But not on Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton terms. Those guys are racist. But on terms that those guys will hate; like black firefighters that weren't promoted into management because they couldn't pass a test, yet they were promoted anyway, prompting a lawsuit from whites. I asked my liberal friend why he felt this was fair, and he went on and on about diversity, and how we should help those black firefighters pass the test. Or when UC schools complained that not enough blacks were getting in, because their test scores were lower than Asian and Caucasian students. So they lowered the standard for them to enroll. That was my point. My point is, Holden isn't going to like it, if it goes down those directions. Maybe he will, I don't know. But let's find out. Let's have shows start discussing things that might not sound politically correct. And MsGrant...obviously, domestic abuse happens among all races. But I read something a while back that stated it happens more in black homes. It was also an article that said 50% of all black children born, don't have a father in the household.— February 22, 2009 1:29 p.m.
Furious George -- Chimps Gone Wild!
You are correct, sir! (said in my best Phil Hartmanish/Ed McMahon voice) That's why I found it so funny in the movie Notes on a Scandal a few years back, when Judy Densch comments on why she has a cat. And, before women get all upset, it's not ALL women. But you're right, there's a certain percentage that do this. I'm guessing the ape, which she claims was potty trained, is a lot neater in the bathroom than most men. (cue the Rita Rudner voice): "Men are like big apes. Especially in bathrooms. Accuracy isn't very important to them. As long as you get it in the general area of the toilet, that's close enough."— February 21, 2009 10:55 a.m.
The Oscar Pool
Come on, 'drea. The Oscars are in a few days. GO see some of these movies. My girlfriend and I are seeing The Wrestler again tonight. I think it's her favorite movie of the year. The guy that sold him steroids in the movie (a buffed out bald dude), just got arrested for selling steroids. Talk about art immitating life! I just hope that Rourke gets his hair cut before the Oscars. I mean, I understand that wrestler Randy "The Ram" Robinson, wanted the long, blonde locks. But he looks bizarre with that hair out in public. It reminds me a bit of David Lee Roth. Roure also recently lost his dog of 17 years. If he wins, I'm sure he'll give the pooch a shout-out.— February 20, 2009 4:33 p.m.
Juries and Court Cases
Very good points.— February 20, 2009 4:31 p.m.
Juries and Court Cases
Well QQ...here's what I think happened. I don't think the firefighters were "threatened." They saw it as an easy payday. They thought they had a slam dunk lawsuit. After all, NO WORK PLACE should force you to do something like participate in a gay pride parade against your will. It's as simple as that. Do you at least agree with that? Now, that being said....the guys are idiots. And here's why. I guarantee that this same group of guys, bitches when they hear about a woman suing McDonald's for a million bucks for spilling coffee on her lap. Or the guy that sued Qualcomm Stadium because some women came in and used the mens bathroom during a Billy Joel concert, and it caused "pain and suffering" because he couldn't go. To me, in the work place, you give your bosses warning. You say, "Just for future ref. if you make me work against my will, in something like this...I'll go to the press. I'll sue, and it won't be pretty." And you end it right there. You don't sue. And, if this fire fighter is so scared of a few gay people yelling out comments to him, well...he should shave that goofy mustache he had. I mean, he looked like the missing Village People character -- the firefighter with the big bushy mustache!— February 20, 2009 3:08 p.m.
Letters
Bryen, not the fact that I'm a Doors fan should I have known it, but the fact that I'm a reporter covering an event, that was for his 65th birthday! I have personalized licenses plates that are a Doors song, if there's any doubt in your mind as to what kind of fan I am (or geek, depending on your opinion). Shatner would be telling me to "get a life". As I've grown older, though, I'm not as hardcore about it. I don't have a lizard tattoo on my ankle, or want to fight someone that says they suck. But thanks for the correction.— February 20, 2009 10:40 a.m.

That's a good point, Rickey. When I did the question of "your favorite movie," I made sure I got a wide range of folks, as I didn't want a bunch of old ladies all saying "Gone with the Wind." I didn't think with the book/movie question, it mattered as much. I pick Catch-22, although I believe it came out the same year as MASH, which was also considered a better war film, Catch 22 might be the funniest American novel ever written. I'd also have Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kasey as a close second. Both the movie and book are excellent (it was the first film to be 5 for 5 on winning Oscars in the main categories).— February 19, 2009 4:48 p.m.
