Cutting in Line
Ponzi: That story is odd. That person should've clearly told you, or at the very least, when he noticed you wouldn't get on...give his spot to you. You would've then rolled your eyes and said "That's cool, don't worry about it." And at least he had made the effort. JM: as much as I've wanted to shove kids, it's really never acceptable. You could always just stand in front of them when they get to the box office. Make it to where THEY have to shove you, to buy the ticket. And you can tell the person behind the counter what happened. That is...if they don't leave the line when you tell them. mitt: Don't you Brits call it "cueing up"? The grocery stores here have a great system that works well. When a new cash register opens up, the person working it won't say "I can take who's next." They walk up and grab the person that IS next, and they say "I can help you over here." That system works well. I also like when stores have two or three registers, and there's just one big line (like a bank) and the person in the line goes to the one that opens next. This keeps you from being behind the person that has 83 coupons, and decides to try and find their checkbook in the purse, not knowing where it is!— July 2, 2009 3:01 p.m.
BREAKING NEWS BLOG -- Michael Jackson and Farrah Die
I'm sure the latest history lesson on Michael Jackson will be coming from Spike Lee. At one gathering (I believe at the Apollo), that racist filmmaker said that everyone should ignore the media trying to bring Jackson down, and that it should be about the love. Yeah, well...that would all be good and fine, if he didn't have a reputation for molesting children and just acting weird on so many occasions. I'm waiting for Spike to claim that when other singers like Elvis died, the media didn't bring out all the negative. My reply to that would be...the media was less tabloid like in the 70s. And, if he remembers, when Cobain killed himself, I heard lots of negative about him as well.— July 2, 2009 12:29 a.m.
Keep the Tip!
Well rickey, that's why I said in the above "it's tricky". Because if they bring it early, some patrons feel they are being asked to leave, so the table can be used by the next customers. So if I'm in a hurry, I ask for it right away, but politely.— July 2, 2009 12:27 a.m.
Oceanside Cop Back to Work
I do think cops deserve the benefit of the doubt. But in this case, this cop pulled out his gun and pointed it at her. At that point, all she did was follow him closely and pull up next to him. Right there, he's wrong. An off-duty cop isn't supposed to pull out a gun as a "threat". And then, he proceeded to get OUT OF his car, which is what endangered his life. Had he stayed in his car, she backs up and breaks off his mirror. And when the cops show up, he doesn't have to go to court. She gets to go to jail for all kinds of charges.— July 1, 2009 8:40 p.m.
No Bull -- Another Child Dies Because of Bad Parenting
Why aren't charges filed? That's crazy. I think there should be charges if you have a dog that attacks and kills your child. If you feel an animal, no matter what kind, can be dangerous...you shouldn't bring it into the home where you have children. And there have already been stories like this with big snakes before. But, people will scream and holler if we talk about banning certain animals as pets. Yet, we can't rely on people to be smart enough to make that decision. This is why politicians end up deciding what can is legal or illegal.— July 1, 2009 8:37 p.m.
BREAKING NEWS BLOG -- Michael Jackson and Farrah Die
Spliff...thank you for that interesting history lesson. The problem with your logic...well, along with those bad things you mention in history, do you realize Christians burned and killed women they "thought" were witches? Does that mean the Christians today are bad people because of that? I don't think so. So...if white America did bad things in the past, I don't think that makes Caucasians bad people. But to say that another race CAN NOT be racist, is just silly.— July 1, 2009 3:41 p.m.
Leaf Blower (ain't no snow in San Diego)
SD...why is it you think you can learn from others (about local politicians, or any number of topics), but you feel you can't learn anything about racism from me? Because I'm Caucasian? Because my 39 years on the planet observing, having friends of all races, working with all races, don't mean much because it's coming from a white perspective?— July 1, 2009 3:36 p.m.
Punk Politesse
It's funny that I mentioned a raggae band and the smell of marijuana, when the big story this year at the Fair is that they won't have a raggae day, because of the complaints from people last year about the marijuana smoking.— July 1, 2009 3:10 p.m.
Leaf Blower (ain't no snow in San Diego)
Why would you assume that Visduh knows anything about my blogs, or my feelings on various topics? Sure, my ego would like to think he does, but I bet he doesn't. I think he/she made that point because it's interesting. It's what happens a lot in this country. If someone doesn't like something...let's say it's car windows being tinted black...someone else trying to defend them will say something like "It's mostly [insert race here] that has tinted windows. Therefore, you're racist for wanting them banned." And SD....if you bow out of such topics, isn't that showing that you aren't interested in solutions to them? I would think discussing racism, or perceived racism, is one way to eradicate said problem.— July 1, 2009 10:37 a.m.
Discrepancies Aside
richinsd: not sure why you liked this movie so much. i was rather disappointed in it, and I'm an Allen fan. i think ANY episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, has a lot more laughs than this entire movie. and all the concepts in this, have been done before (a pyschic that didn't know enough to not be under a building when something falls on her...a rant about how you need a license to fish, sell hot dogs, drive a car, but not to have a baby, etc). if this movie had been written by some film student out of NYU, no studio would've made it. don't get me wrong...i certainly wasn't bored watching it. when you have larry david, ed beagley jr, and woody dialog, it's certainly not a boring time. but this time out, it was disappointing.— July 1, 2009 10:32 a.m.
