Stupid Cops and the Stupid People That Hate Cops
MB...your post of what happened just doesn't pass the smell test. Do you really, seriously believe that the woman refused to give her age, and at that, the cop decided to put her arm behind her back? Really? I'm guessing she started to walk away, at which point, he detained her. As to it being in her own living room, again, use my analogy of a domestic violence call. If the man beat his wife, he is IN HIS LIVING ROOM. Does that mean he can dictate to the cops, how things will unfold, or what is and isn't his business? Refried, I understand asking an age can seem "insensitive." But...who are we to dictate what questions the cops ask us? Can we decide we don't want to say the alphabet, or count backwards from 100, during a traffic stop in which the officer suspects us of being intoxicated? Ponzi, pass the popcorn.— July 6, 2009 6:42 p.m.
Stupid Cops and the Stupid People That Hate Cops
sf: here's the thing. if this was a bunch of young kids partying, wearing Raiders jerseys and pants that don't fit them...and the cop did this, EVERYONE would be shouting about how the cop was harassing them for no reason other than they looked like gang members, or the color of their skin, or [insert excuse here]. Well, this is a PERFECT EXAMPLE about how the cops work. They were "investigating" a noise complaint, and doing what they needed to do. Which was to listen outside, to see if they could hear any noise. And when they did, going up and asking information of the owner (ID, birthday, etc). When the people (rich white folks this time) didn't comply, things went downhill. If WE THE PEOPLE decide what the cops can request of us and what they can't, it wouldn't work. Any time they came to our door for something....like say, a neighbor calling that there's a domestic dispute that sounds like a woman is being beaten up [which cops tell you is the most dangerous call]...you can just refuse to let the cop in. Your wife might be a bloody mess in the other room, but you can tell the cop "Hey....this is my house, and you don't have the right to come in here."— July 6, 2009 4:33 p.m.
The Good 'Ole Days
Nice write up. I like all the ground it covered. (on a side note: did you notice scenes in the Amanda movie where you could see the boom mic above their heads? that was odd) This guy I played racquetball with, mentions another kind of women he would find on online dating sites. A woman that wants to email and email and email, and isn't so interested in a relationship that requires meeting up and doing all those things. But someone that is an "online buddy" that she can vent her problems to, or talk about a co-worker she hates, or a boss that didn't give her a promotion, etc. For all the people that have such horrible experiences with online dating, I always wonder why they didn't get to know each other better via the computer, before meeting up.— July 6, 2009 4:25 p.m.
BREAKING NEWS BLOG -- Michael Jackson and Farrah Die
This Michael Jackson/Farrah Fawcett joke just in: When Farrah Fawcett started in Hollywood, she ended up messing around with Majors. Michael Jackson was messing around with minors.— July 6, 2009 4:15 p.m.
Keep the Tip!
Damn tipping! My girlfriend gave the valet at The Marine Room a $3 tip, on top of the $5 they charged to park our car. I mean...the car was parked five feet from us!!! Why are we tipping anything for that service? A service that we are being charged $5 for anyway?!?!??!?!!— July 6, 2009 4:10 p.m.
Cruisin' Grand
That's one of the reasons Pintos are always on the list of worst cars ever made. My brother had a Pinto station wagon in high school. It was missing the front, passenger side seat. So he put a bean bag chair in there. He was such a stoner, that the doors of it would open, and smoke would pillow out like the VW van in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.— July 6, 2009 4:08 p.m.
Pornography at the Work Place
refried, that's a VERY GOOD point regarding the judge. But, once the judge has to pull himself from a case, BECAUSE of the content on his website, that's where I have a problem. That means tax money is being used for a guy in a position that can't completely do his job properly. If some ego maniac needs a website to post humorous things they find online, pictures of their vacation and friends, etc etc etc...well, that's fine. If your job has a problem with it, they get top priority, even if it's your personal life. Every week, I run into people that WANT to give an answer in the Off the Cuff section, but they say "My boss wouldn't be cool with that." And I don't try to talk them into it. Some are worried about their job, so they don't tell me the company they work for, but a generic job title of what they do. If you're a judge, and people can put your name into some search engine, and find things like that on your website...there's a problem.— July 6, 2009 4:07 p.m.
Stupid Cops and the Stupid People That Hate Cops
I wanted the cop that shot the Oceanside boy to get in trouble, but that's our crappy jury system, not the police departments fault. Regarding the water guy...I've read the numerous stories about him. And it sounds to me like that guy does a wonderful thing. But, that being said...we don't know all the details. For example, I worked at a fast food place in high school. We threw away lots and lots of food, and we all wondered why we couldn't just take it to a homeless shelter. We were told if the food went bad, people get sick, and the restaurant would get into trouble. So, maybe you can't just stop and pass out water bottles, or food, for those reasons. And when told he has to stop, and words are exchanged, who knows what happens. I have many friends and people I know (but not well) that are cops. And I've never heard stories like that. And even if I had...as I said above...all professions have bad employees. Why would the police force be any different?— July 6, 2009 4:03 p.m.
BREAKING NEWS BLOG -- Michael Jackson and Farrah Die
Well, in the book Freakanomics, they talk about how everyone always thought the discripancy in race in prisons, had to do with the different prosecution against users of crack vs. people that use cocaine. Yet, once they threw out all the people in prison on cocaine or crack charges, it was still a larger population of blacks in prison. I definately think if you're rich and can hire a legal "dream team," you don't do prison time (see Robert Blake, and Phil Spector and OJ their first times on trial). So, the only color that keeps people out of prison is green.— July 6, 2009 2:13 p.m.
Stupid Cops and the Stupid People That Hate Cops
Ponzi, I agree 100% with your post. Someone on here posted the same thing about teachers, stating there aren't bad teachers at the bad schools. Teachers, like cops, are just like everyone else. There are good ones, bad ones, and some in between. Yet, everyone likes to try to guess as to why some schools have bad students. And blaming the teachers lack of caring is something they use. And, with police, it's that same thing. Spliff, the reason I use the term "minorities" is because the friends of mine that fit this category, always claim the police harass them. And when they explain the story to me, it hardly sounds like harassement. When my Caucasian friends say "cops are such jerks," they don't seem to bring race into the equation. They just chalk it up to cops being on a "power trip" or any number of things. Instead of just realizing that a cops job isn't to kiss your butt or act nice to you.— July 6, 2009 2:06 p.m.
