BREAKING NEWS BLOG -- Michael Jackson and Farrah Die
Spliff...let me ask you this. You said you know cops. So, the cops you know -- are they racist? do they do illegal things? I'm guessing you're going to tell me they don't. So...why do you think the cops I know...or the other hardworking cops everywhere, do? Is it JUST THE ONES you know that do things properly and by the book?— July 23, 2009 11:37 p.m.
President Obama is Stupidly
Well...maybe. But SD might be one of the most educated people I've ever met. Yet she often seems to throw common sense out the window. I don't care if you've read a hundred books people like Gates, Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, or Orprah -- on what it's like to be African-American. That doesn't mean ANY TIME there's a confrontation between a black and a white, that it's a "race crime". Or that a police officer was "racist". And for people to keep saying on all these talk shows "we don't know the whole story..." well, explain to me why Obama would claim the cops acted "stupidly", when he's admitting he "doesn't know the whole story."— July 23, 2009 11:32 p.m.
Nice to Meet
There are many aspect to enjoy in a film, that's true. But a movie might have an amazing score, nice cinematography, and a lot of other interesting things. Yet, spoiling something that would be very powerful to witness on the big screen, is a big time bummer. And in this review of MOON, that's what happened.— July 23, 2009 11:28 p.m.
President Obama is Stupidly
anti...let's hear your opinion on Mr. Gates and how he was "treated" by the cops. I'm sure like SD, you feel Mr. Gates was treated poorly. I argued with a liberal friend of mine today...an intelligent woman (teacher and retired lawyer), who actually was stupid enough to say "Cops are always planting evidence and framing people." If a person feels more than 1% of cops do this, they watch too many movies. But you know what's funny? What happened to Gates is almost EXACTLY what happened to a bunch of "rich, white Democrats" up here in Encinitas when they, too...decided they wouldn't answer cops questions (unlike Gates, though, they got maced and/or tazed). Imagine if these folks in Encinitas had been black. Everyone would be saying "Look at that...a simple noise complaint, and the cops are macing everyone because they're racist." Do we see a pattern here? Yes. It could be the cops are mean. And it could also be that the cops don't take BS. They ask you questions, ask for ID, you show it. You don't turn and walk away. How stupid a man is Gates, to not realize that he was pushing and messing around with his door, and cops showed up? He's offended by that?!?!?! Spliff: You mention all those 70s shows. What does that even prove? There were some 70s shows with blacks. What's Happenin', White Shadow...and even Happy Days had Sticks (anyone remember that dude?) You also mentioned Saved by the Bell, but that had a black girl (and she was the cutest of the bunch) cardig: not only are you making the cops nervous when you start yelling at them and not showing ID...but you're also keeping them there longer, which means...other REAL criminals out there that they aren't catching. Because let's face it...Mr. Gates isn't a criminal. He's not someone the cops should be spending time dealing with. YET, because of his idiotic behavior, he has now created a situation where taxpayers are spending money to deal with him. So, SD...I might have been interested in reading something by Gates. But not now. He's no different in my mind, then idiots like Rev. Wright, Rev Sharpton, or Rev Spliff. All idiots that spout off inaccuracies, and hurt race relations with their constant claims (while Wright lived in a $10 million mansion in a WHITE neighborhood). Spliff: freedom of speech doesn't mean you can yell. Try shouting "fire!" in a movie theatre. Or try yelling at a cop, or in a restaurant...and see what that "freedom" gets ya. Think about what the term "freedom of speech" means. It doesn't mean I can shout the "n word" and try to incite a riot. And nobody should want to do that.— July 23, 2009 10:32 p.m.

President Obama is Stupidly
Spliff: Arnold would never be able to become President (thank god) because he wasn't born here. That doesn't apply for other offices. And from day one, a few Republicans tried to play that thing about Obama not really being born here. It was their only shot. And it didn't hold water. I've even heard a few Republicans (Michael Medved, for one), say it's insane for people to keep bringing all that up. And let me ask you this, Spliff. If cops showed up at your house, because someone called about a burglarly...what should they do if you refuse to open the door, but yell at them thru the door "I live here! Get lost!" Should they just say "Oh well. We angered a resident here, let's move on." Or should they wonder if, perhaps, that's the burglar inside. Or what? You don't open the door and start screaming. You calmly open your door. And you expect them to possibly have guns drawn, as they think it might be a burglar. You show your ID, and the cops WILL move along. It's as simple as that. But again...trouble makers create trouble, and then wonder why cops bring them in. It baffles my mind that people can't get around this.— July 23, 2009 11:11 a.m.
President Obama is Stupidly
kick: the mayor made some contradictory statements. and she's black, and for some reason, felt like it was the "thing to do" for someone living in her town (so she said). but seriously...ask yourself this. if you locked yourself out of your house. and for some reason, you decided to crawl in thru the window and cops show up...what do you think is going to happen? now, before you quickly answer me...think about it. think about WHAT cops will say to you, and what you'll say back. i do think you are right. that race played a part here. but ONLY because Gates made it play a part. he had anger, and what he perceived the cops of perceiving. guess what I heard on Good Morning America along with the story? that a neighbor that witnessed the whole thing, said the cop was being fine during all this, but Gates was freaking out and screaming. why would a neighbor lie? is this again, some big conspiracy amongst the white people (neighbors, cops, etc), to have a prominant black man arrested?— July 23, 2009 11:06 a.m.

500 Days of Summer (and $500 found)
Mindy, I couldn't agree more. For example, I just saw this woman at the basketball courts. And, even when I was a kid, if women were playing, guys would go ga-ga over them (if they were attractive). They would compliment any basic move they made on the court. I would try to treat them just as any other player, because I assumed that's what they'd prefer. And it's also one of the reasons I found 500 Days of Summer so interesting. The woman tells the kid from the beginning, that she isn't interested in a long-term or serious relationship. Yet he gets serious. So, you're left wondering...whose fault is it?— July 23, 2009 6:54 a.m.
Rapers Wit -- When Women Cry Rape
Great points, Mindy. But a few clarifications are in order. First, Pee Wee was never "accused" of anything. He masterbated in a movie theatre. And, he had a collection of child pornography (he pleaded guilty to that charge, but later tried to say it was bogus). Second, the logic that a guy that can get "any woman" would not resort to rape, does a disserve to rape victims. Because rape isn't a crime always committed by a guy just looking to have sex. I mean, a good way to look at it is OJ Simpson. He killed a woman and another guy, simply because that woman didn't want him anymore. Yet I'm sure you'd agree, OJ had no problem getting women (even after women knew he was a murderer). So why kill Nicole? He should've just moved on to the next attractive blonde he could date and cheat on. A rapist is going to rape. That might mean he has a wife and kids. It might mean he's good looking and could get any woman, yet he still drugs their drink. It's a crime that is hard to rationally look at, because it's done by pyschos. Also, you start off by saying "I can see why a woman would cry rape to get money, attention, etc..." Well, I sure can't. Because that is a woman not looking at the big picture. Let's say you tell a woman that dated Donald Trump, "I can guarantee, if you accuse him of rape, you'll get $10 million. He'll spend 10 years in jail. Even though the charge is false. Would you do it?" I'd like to think EVERY woman would say "Heck no! I'm not going to put someone in jail for a crime they didn't commit, just because it makes me rich. Now, what isn't being brought into this scenario, is the woman that might be hoping to become a girlfriend or wife. She might feel used, and her mindset becomes one in which she can justify doing the previous scenario. And that's what I think sometimes happens.— July 23, 2009 6:50 a.m.
