Giving to Charity -- The Blood Bank Edition
Okay, they didn't ask if I liked vampire movies. But I swear, they were looking at me teeth, thinking my incissors were a bit sharper than the norm. I dunno what that was about. PP, I think they just want to be on the safe side. Obviously the blood is screened for AIDS, but I've heard stories in the past of them catching it too late, and a blood transfusion was done, and now someone else has AIDS (it was such a tragedy to happen to Arthur Ashe, perhaps the classiest athlete in sports history). So, they obviously have reasons for all of this.— August 15, 2009 9:42 p.m.
Half Nelson
You nailed it, coolio. Those two performances were excellent. One scene I found very interesting...after Gosling sleeps with that attractive teacher, and she wants to spend the next day with him. He's jonesing so much for his next hit, he doesn't even come up with a good excuse as to why he can't hang out ("hey, I'm going to be grading these papers, and I'm swamped with work.") He's just flat out rude. Great movie.— August 15, 2009 9:38 p.m.
My Thoughts on Michael Douglas and Michael Vick
I agree. I would prefer that he NOT be allowed back into the NFL. But, killers like Ray Lewis have been let back in, so the NFL is kind of in a bind. What baffles me is...the simple solution would've been for the commish to just give him a two year suspension. That way, no team would want him (too old) at that point. Instead, this is going to be a PR nightmare for the Eagles. And the NFL! There was a time in the 70s, I remember baseball teams not allowing players to have mustaches. In sports, as you say, it's a "privilege" to make those millions. ANd part of that, is the PR involved. It's not flipping off the fans, or refusing to sign autographs after the games, etc. We'll see what happens. Robert Downey Jr. had chance after chance, and he kept messing it up. And he now seems to have finally got his s*** together, and has made some good movies. So it is possible. It's just a shame that people that aren't in the entertainment field, don't seem to get those same chances.— August 15, 2009 12:38 p.m.
Fan Halen
Atomic Punks are great, and put on a great show. I was in House of Blues for a show the other night, and at the urinal they had a poster right above it for Fan Halen. The band members all look like the VH band members, but I laughed when I glanced at bassist Michael Anthony. He has the face, but is about 100 pounds heavier (not that there's anything wrong with that...it just made me laugh)— August 14, 2009 4:03 p.m.
Russian Statue vs. Denver Bear
I just heard Al Sharpton is going around the country with two other people (forget who...big names), and it sounded like they were actually doing something constructive. What an idiot Sharpton is. Harvest...when Michael Jackson died, one of his brothers was talking about how he was such a great father to his kids (although, I wonder...is it being a "good father" to do drugs in the home your kids are in?) Anywhooooo....the guy was surprised when Bubbles the chimp went over and kissed one of his kids, that was a 2-year-old baby at the time. Bizarre. A chimp like that could kill a baby in a second, and nobody around would've been able to do anything (although...the chimp attacking the baby would probably have just made the kid look a bit more like Michael)— August 14, 2009 3:56 p.m.
Steven Tyler and Eunice Shriver -- One is Dead. One Looks Dead.
Steven Tyler Update: The rest of the Aerosmith tour has been cancelled. Eunice Shriver Update: Still dead.— August 14, 2009 11:27 a.m.
Golding's Grudge
The funny thing about this group of costumes was...many of them weren't wearing clothes, but things like shower curtains, with rubber ducks in front of them, and a shower head above them. Really clever stuff like that. Other people had a big mustache and sombrero. Which is great if you're going to a Cinco De Mayo party, but those items are still "clothing". It was a lot fun. (so...that's the way to get Fred to come back to my threads, write about someone that has to do with politics)— August 14, 2009 11:26 a.m.

Too Many Cooks
Good points, rglenn. And Sissy Spacek got some attention a few years back (and I believe an Oscar nomination) for In The Bedroom a few years ago.— August 13, 2009 5:52 p.m.
Driving Drunk Is Not Easy
SDaniels...I was all prepared to leave you alone. And I'm all for the "truce" you suggested in email. The problem I have, though...are that when you fight with Pete, that's fine. Fight with him. Go to battle. But I've heard from people on the boards, that you tell them NOT to side with Pete on issues. And to me, if you're sending emails to others on issues, that's just lame. If you guys argue on an issue, people will post which side they come down on. If it isn't the side you are on, oh well. No need to resort to childish playground tactics. Okay. Now... Continue on with your guys fight.— August 13, 2009 5:49 p.m.
