The gentle decline of golf in San Diego
For example, San Diego is one of the biotech centers of the U.S. ================================= But only since the late 90's has biotech taken off in San Diego. I think we could get a larger business base-but I think it would have to be home grown, with the City and County doing a better job of keeping start up's here happy. San Diego does have a fairly decent sized TV/Film industry. We also have the largest military port in the world, although all government, it brings in huge dollars-and it is not getting outsourced anywhere.— June 5, 2008 4:25 p.m.
Why Mayor Sanders invested in Maxxum Equity Fund
Mike Aguirre was OUTSPENT 30-1 on the prmary. Mike did not even campaign and he still pulled 29% to Goldsmiths 32%. So I am not worried about November. The real question is who are the swing voters (the other 40%) going to vote for??? Also remember that November is a PRESIDENTIAL election, and the voter turnout will be sky high-this will work in Mike's favor (I think). The turnout for this past primary was for us, hardcore voters who know the issues inside out. So, hello November!— June 5, 2008 9:09 a.m.

Hey, you can't win'em all. As for Hong Kong, it is generaly considered to be the "Capitalist City of the World", and as such is also the most expensive city in the world. I could never afford Hong Kong, but if money were no object I would move there, if I could handle the rain.— June 4, 2008 4:34 p.m.
Federal Judge Says Blackwater Can Go Ahead with Shooting Range; City Attorney Protests Decision
It would be a good case for appeal because the fact of the matter is, no matter who's side you're on, Huff did NOT have the jurisdiction to hear this case at this point in time. She had no leagl authority to rule at this stage of the process, not until the state had a chance to go thru their process. BW may have won at the state level. This is purely a states right's issue-land use. It should be allowed to go thru the state system FIRST, and only then should BW be allowed to go to federal court on due process issues. Having said all of this I think the ruling by Huff was correct (albeit early) and would prevailed in the long run anyway.— June 4, 2008 4:20 p.m.
Judge Says Federal Court Can Hear Blackwater's Suit
Huff just gave BW a TRO against the City to allow BW to open their facility tommorrow. She should not have taken this case-she had no jurisdiction.— June 4, 2008 1:17 p.m.
Why Mayor Sanders invested in Maxxum Equity Fund
Not 0 for 2. I also had Mike winning (or going on to November), same with Marti and Carl. So I was 3 for 5. I must say though, the Sanders loss is a very tough pill to swallow. Did I really say I was going to move to Hong Kong if Sanders won?????— June 4, 2008 12:03 p.m.

4 more years of Col KFC Sanders...I cannot believe he was re elected, boggles the mind how anyone could vote for Sanders again after these last 3 years of nothing-and now we are stuck with him for another 4 years....Oh Brother. On the bright side Carl DiMaio will bring a positive balance to the clowncil's pro public union slant-and although Mike did not get the margin of victory I thought he would, he still did his job- with no campaigning. Peters and Brian M are finished in public life. Phewwww, glad the are history at least.— June 4, 2008 8:49 a.m.

Grand Jury Tells CCDC To Stop Claiming It Funds Redevelopment Projects
Close the whole operation down. We don't need it in 2008.— June 2, 2008 4:56 p.m.
How San Diego's pension debt ballooned
The Fire Department bureaucracy, inefficiency, and waste are simply outrageous. -Salaries, benefits, and pensions are just too high. -Pensions should be replaced by 401k’s. -There are too many Firefighters (much too much downtime especially on the engines). -There are too many chiefs (too many are glorified paper pushers). -There are too many fire engines for the amount of actual fires (5% of calls) and structure fires (2% of the calls). They don’t need an engine in virtually every station at around $500,000 per engine. -There is no incentive to save money or cut costs; after all, the taxpayers are footing the bill.
