Belize Explored
Belize sounds fantastic, Anthony. I've heard nothing but good things about the place and have added it to my "Must See" list. Tell me, was the drinking water safe there? Did you or your partner experience anything bad related to the food or water? I've traveled to quite a few Central and South American countries and it is those damn amoeba's that usually cause a problem, if any. Is there reason to be cautious in Belize? Bauer, Iowa: Sunset on Rural America
Joe, Bauer sounds like a really nice place, although I was a little taken back when I read about the church being "the last religious structure in the often-called German Town area that has not been burned down or extensively vandalized." Any special reason the vandals in Bauer have it in for the Germans? I'm thinking it might be the result of all the obvious in-breeding that has taken place with "nearly 50% of those interned being named Bauer...at least 95% appear to be related." Bauer sounds like a really close-knit, German-hating, somewhat incestuous community. But it also sounds like a really beautiful place.

Infanticides Discovered in Tijuana
I hear you, John; TJ and much of Mexico has taken a real ass-kicking for quite some time. These goddamn narco gangs have got everybody scared witless, and there doesn't seem to be anyone or anything that can control them. I think the quick solution is to simply legalize drugs in the US. Sell it cheap like they do in London. You want to get wasted in your bathroom? Go right ahead. We won't miss you if you od, and if that is the way you want to spend your life, we will make it possible for you to do it on pennies a day. No more humongous profits; no more gangbizmen. But you know and I know, that ain't going to happen. There's way too much profit in keeping the war on drugs going. That's the other thing these narco gangs do; they give the US and others the justification they need to keep pumping million$ more into the drug war, the wall, etc.. It's a sad situation and Mexico is definitely taking the most lumps as a result.

Infanticides Discovered in Tijuana
Diego, I hear what you're saying about TJ and Mexico....but the media is not making it all up. Those bodies without heads were real. Poor Mexico is being destroyed by greedy Mexicans; just like the US is being destroyed by greedy Americans. In Mexico it is taking a very violent form while here in the US it takes the form of credit obligations, upside down mortgages, and inescapable student loans. I like what you said about not being an animal, but if sufficiently trained, you become "Just another animal in the herd." That says a lot about how normal sane human beings can be induced to commit bloody murder. Following the herd allows young men and women, all in the name of god, country, and patriotic duty, to go off to other countries and bring some lives to an end. Then they come home and start feeling strange and realize they did a bad, bad thing. And then there are those who didn't make it home and pretty soon a lot of people are starting to wonder what that was all about. But by then, we've either pulled out because there is just not enough profit in it, or we figured out a way to do business with the people we formerly had to kill, and so the whole thing is tucked away and it's business as usual. Like I said, these countries and the good people who live in them, are being destroyed by greedy bastards who don't care who dies, as long as it ain't them, and as long as the money keeps rolling in.

Bill, I don't want people with opinions different from mine to leave the country; just those who complain about paying taxes for programs designed to help others. Yes, some money gets eaten up by the bureaucracy, but much more ends up doing exactly what it was intended to do. I just don't like people who promote a dog eat dog society. I believe we can be so much more than that, and can easily afford it. We just need to get our priorities straight and reign in the waste on such things as Iraq and Afghanistan; eliminate the mortgage interest deduction; and have the rich pay their fair share of taxes.

David, Went to see Flynn. Good Lord, I think DeNiro is done. A vulgar and grizzled Jack Byrnes is exactly what I saw. He cannot put a character over the top like he used to. I truly think DeNiro never could act; he just occupied characters, and those that were close to who he was in real life, came off as stunning and unforgettable. But as soon as a director other than Scorsese asked him to perform--to actually act, it immediately went downhill. He is stiff and moves like a cardboard man. What a shame; what a loss. Seems he is not willing to take chances anymore. Maybe he feels he doesn't have to. Probably because he knows he's Deniro.

I have found a direct correlation between the number of semicolons I use and the number of shots of tequila I've had. Now, with vodka, I go more with the dashes; gin yields run-on sentences; and the demon rum just results in lots of profanity. I think scotch produces my finest writing. Weed: a lot of what I call "circular thinking."

Belize Explored
Belize sounds fantastic, Anthony. I've heard nothing but good things about the place and have added it to my "Must See" list. Tell me, was the drinking water safe there? Did you or your partner experience anything bad related to the food or water? I've traveled to quite a few Central and South American countries and it is those damn amoeba's that usually cause a problem, if any. Is there reason to be cautious in Belize? Bauer, Iowa: Sunset on Rural America
Joe, Bauer sounds like a really nice place, although I was a little taken back when I read about the church being "the last religious structure in the often-called German Town area that has not been burned down or extensively vandalized." Any special reason the vandals in Bauer have it in for the Germans? I'm thinking it might be the result of all the obvious in-breeding that has taken place with "nearly 50% of those interned being named Bauer...at least 95% appear to be related." Bauer sounds like a really close-knit, German-hating, somewhat incestuous community. But it also sounds like a really beautiful place.— April 9, 2012 8:47 a.m.

I hear you, John; TJ and much of Mexico has taken a real ass-kicking for quite some time. These goddamn narco gangs have got everybody scared witless, and there doesn't seem to be anyone or anything that can control them. I think the quick solution is to simply legalize drugs in the US. Sell it cheap like they do in London. You want to get wasted in your bathroom? Go right ahead. We won't miss you if you od, and if that is the way you want to spend your life, we will make it possible for you to do it on pennies a day. No more humongous profits; no more gangbizmen. But you know and I know, that ain't going to happen. There's way too much profit in keeping the war on drugs going. That's the other thing these narco gangs do; they give the US and others the justification they need to keep pumping million$ more into the drug war, the wall, etc.. It's a sad situation and Mexico is definitely taking the most lumps as a result.— April 4, 2012 11:31 a.m.

Diego, I hear what you're saying about TJ and Mexico....but the media is not making it all up. Those bodies without heads were real. Poor Mexico is being destroyed by greedy Mexicans; just like the US is being destroyed by greedy Americans. In Mexico it is taking a very violent form while here in the US it takes the form of credit obligations, upside down mortgages, and inescapable student loans. I like what you said about not being an animal, but if sufficiently trained, you become "Just another animal in the herd." That says a lot about how normal sane human beings can be induced to commit bloody murder. Following the herd allows young men and women, all in the name of god, country, and patriotic duty, to go off to other countries and bring some lives to an end. Then they come home and start feeling strange and realize they did a bad, bad thing. And then there are those who didn't make it home and pretty soon a lot of people are starting to wonder what that was all about. But by then, we've either pulled out because there is just not enough profit in it, or we figured out a way to do business with the people we formerly had to kill, and so the whole thing is tucked away and it's business as usual. Like I said, these countries and the good people who live in them, are being destroyed by greedy bastards who don't care who dies, as long as it ain't them, and as long as the money keeps rolling in.— April 3, 2012 10:26 p.m.

Bill, I don't want people with opinions different from mine to leave the country; just those who complain about paying taxes for programs designed to help others. Yes, some money gets eaten up by the bureaucracy, but much more ends up doing exactly what it was intended to do. I just don't like people who promote a dog eat dog society. I believe we can be so much more than that, and can easily afford it. We just need to get our priorities straight and reign in the waste on such things as Iraq and Afghanistan; eliminate the mortgage interest deduction; and have the rich pay their fair share of taxes.— March 24, 2012 7:13 p.m.

David, Went to see Flynn. Good Lord, I think DeNiro is done. A vulgar and grizzled Jack Byrnes is exactly what I saw. He cannot put a character over the top like he used to. I truly think DeNiro never could act; he just occupied characters, and those that were close to who he was in real life, came off as stunning and unforgettable. But as soon as a director other than Scorsese asked him to perform--to actually act, it immediately went downhill. He is stiff and moves like a cardboard man. What a shame; what a loss. Seems he is not willing to take chances anymore. Maybe he feels he doesn't have to. Probably because he knows he's Deniro.— March 24, 2012 12:25 p.m.

I have found a direct correlation between the number of semicolons I use and the number of shots of tequila I've had. Now, with vodka, I go more with the dashes; gin yields run-on sentences; and the demon rum just results in lots of profanity. I think scotch produces my finest writing.
