ResMed: Please refuse to play the subsidy game

I wonder if Resmed received any subsidies, tax breaks or other assistance to set up here originally? This is getting to be an annoying but familiar routine: extortion of the municipality for the sake of higher profits. I doubt they will go home--Australia's minimum wage is $15.96/hr. My bet is, if they go anywhere it will be Singapore, with no minimum wage at all. I just wish we could do what they do in many European countries and that is to allow companies to leave in pursuit of lower wages and higher profits as long as they pick up the costs of unemployment, continued medical coverage, retraining and relocation if required for the employees they leave behind. Why should taxpayers get stuck with the tab every time a company decides they could make more money some place else?

Bank robbery suspect arrested in Imperial Beach

I did. A GPS device in the suitcase with the narco money, wasn't it? What stayed with me after seeing that film was Javier Bardem and that gizmo he used to poke holes in peoples heads. Yea, I think the dye pack days are over. The dye made a mess but didn't necessarily help the cops find the thief. I think we will be seeing GPS devices used in all sorts of applications.

Mexico increases minimum wage for 2013

No one, if you ask me. It seems even more absurd in the north, close to the border. This is why no one can live on just the income from their job, and why so many are tempted into the drug trade and other illicit, but profitable activities. What do you think the cops make? $25/day? No wonder there is so much graft. I'd love to hear from someone who is living there and learn how much they pay for utilities, rent, and groceries on the local market. I can't imagine how they could do it on $30 a week.

McGrory to Borrego's rescue?

Was just out there this past week. Rigor mortis is definitely setting in. The only grocery store in town is boarded up. The big action is at the grapefruit stand at Christmas Circle. The RVer's are so desperate for something to do they're going to "the movies" at Anza Borrego State Park's Visitors Center (***A Desert Year***...18 minutes long). The restaurant that was next to the police station has closed. The other place, a coffee/sandwich shop a few doors away didn't even have the chili that was listed on the menu. McGrory & Co. are going to have to do a lot more than cranking up the golf course if they expect people to come here more than once. If things keep going the way they are, the only reason people will come out to Borrego Springs is to see California's newest ghost town.

Hikers rescued via helicopter

Yea; the one thing they will gain from this experience (hopefully) is wisdom. That should keep them out of trouble in the future. I've done some hiking in Idaho. Up in the panhandle. Was going to camp out in my small tent but then I came across the carcass of a half-eaten elk and realized there were grizzlies in the neighborhood so I moved on. Beautiful country though.

What I cannot understand is why a guy who is paid $25,000, 26 times a year, plus other cash benefits, would bother selling t-shirts and hats at a swap meet. Unless he was really doing it for other, personal reasons, like..."Come and meet the star!"
