Well regardless of whether or not you trust FT the size of pro football players has increased A LOT - by about 100 lbs over the history of pro football http://www.businessinsider.com/nfl-50s-tim-tebow-…
I'm sure some of the increase is due to better nutrition and weight training, as well as an increasingly greater likely hood that extraordinarily large and strong men would choose pro football as a profession.
But I tend to think that unless PED rules are strictly enforced and there is a lot of random testing there will be a lot of PED use in any sport for which there is a high premium for extreme size and strength.
I would bet that at some point in the next couple of decades all of a sudden someone will "discover" that more than half of the players in the NFL are using PED's and the sports world will be "shocked" the same way they were shocked when they found out so many MLB players were using PED's. — January 26, 2015 7:36 p.m.
Former public utilities president's home searched
The DWP union head keeps refusing to provide any information about what is allegedly a $40M slush fund. Seems like it's getting kind of ugly.— February 3, 2015 12:15 a.m.
No trolley in my backyard
Let me try looking it up. This was in the late 1990's, maybe 1999 or so.— February 2, 2015 2:21 a.m.

If crimes are proven and he is convicted he should be in a cell for a long time. No slap on the wrist please. Public corruption costs a lot of people a lot of money, and arguably utility corruption has been a major contributor to fire deaths in San Diego and explosion deaths in San Bruno.— January 30, 2015 5:56 p.m.

LOL! Brilliant observation! I knew he reminded of somebody! I bet he could fit right in as a cheesy 1960's ad agency boss. Maybe he should try out for Mad Men....— January 30, 2015 5:53 p.m.
No trolley in my backyard
UCSD has been strongly opposed to the trolley for a long time. The obvious spot for a trolley stop on campus would be the Price Center but that was opposed due to some laughably absurd reasons (claims about magnetic fields, claiming the center of campus was actually East of the 5). My guess is campus leaders don't want random "riff-raff" showing up but they're not honest enough to just come out and say that. UCSD has tended to be holier-than-thou about environmental issues while being opposed to the trolley and unfriendly to cyclists.— January 30, 2015 5:45 p.m.
Qualcomm stock plunges 10.28 percent
Mediatek and Marvel's products are catching up to - and arguably surpassing in some instances - QCOM's application processor performance. QCOM is fighting legal wars on several international fronts. This drop probably reflects both of those factors.— January 30, 2015 3:44 p.m.

Fran Tarkenton recently said that the biggest unaddressed cheating problem in the NFL right now is steroid / PED use. I tend to think he's right. I find it hard to believe that the average size of football players has increased as much as it has without significant PED use.— January 25, 2015 9:24 a.m.

There's a saying in sports "if you're not cheating you're not trying". Apparently some pitchers in baseball got quite good at smuggling in foreign substances to alter a baseball - something that can have a HUGE effect to the curve on a properly thrown ball.— January 24, 2015 8:06 p.m.
How about that raise, Boss?
Hmm, well let's see. We had a big crisis caused by irresponsible investment banks and irresponsible lending. So the government decided to take money from average taxpayers and give it to investment banks and lenders. I suppose some of that money trickles down but I'm guessing not much. We continue to have trade policies which favor multinational corporations and which tend to discourage manufacturing at home. Rather than changing our policies we point fingers at China for not "playing fair" (whatever that means). Illegal immigration has kept wages in check for low-skilled workers. Almost unlimited student and H1-B Visas have kept wages in check for high-skilled upper middle class workers. The wage situation is not that surprising.— January 24, 2015 2:10 p.m.
