Democrat Aguirre endorses Republican Faulconer
"two bad choices," Yep "and I say that as a Democrat." Yep " Kev is the worse choice," Yep "but David may end up being a puppet" "May" is not operative: He has already demonstrated this. Would that it were not true. It was not necessary to his success to allow himself to be used, so it's difficult to understand why he has done some of the things he did. Didn't have to be that way. It bodes ill.— February 10, 2014 8:10 a.m.
San Diego food trucks to oppose proposed regulations
Comprehensive report on the issue and background. After spending 45 minutes downtown last night looking for a curbside parking space, and enviously noting all of the off-limits empty curbspace in front of restaurants (valet parking), my sympathy goes to the food trucks. It's as if restauranteurs who lease building space believe that food truck owners have no overhead costs. And as if the property-based restaurants can't stand competition. i support the regulation of health and safety in food trucks, but not the location discrimination that BIDs and business associations are pushing.— February 6, 2014 4:38 p.m.

Monahan - Yes Alvarez is principled, but not all of his principles serve ordinary little-people community residents. Particularly in his council-district neighborhoods he has sometimes failed to foster loyalty among long-time residents, for reasons that are well-documented and that have evolved in local battles for many years (e.g., "Villa" Logan). Important to remember is that District 8 property has been and is a target of many of the "downtown movers and shakers," as they widen their circles of interest and profit beyond downtown and East Village. I'm guessing that you live outside the concentric rings of urban neighborhoods in which the collective of developers, architects, and urban planners now plan to profit. Thus you may not feel the helplessness that urban-core residents feel as their neighborhoods are altered for the worse, and as they are forced to pay assessments controlled by business groups who vow to "improve the quality of their lives." Urban infill, empowered business groups, and business-friendly regulations and legislation are described in current forward-looking City of San Diego Economic Development Strategy documents. These issues are also endlessly discussed at ULI meetings, using a myriad of double-speak vocabulary terms, and comprise a major city plan that Alvarez apparently endorses. Alvarez' principles in this regard have been fully demonstrated in the community in which he lives. I believe that he is beholden to these principles because they are in line with his personal vision for the near-downtown urban communities. Faulconer could care less about urban infill, except that it enriches his cronies, but Alvarez really believes in it. That's what I find most jarring about Alvarez. If you know, has Alvarez spoken on the city's urban-infill plans?— February 6, 2014 2:48 p.m.
City attorney considers conflict of interest
JG may get it right once in a while, but given enough time, when it is useful to his benefactors and beneficiaries, he always finds an argument to prove himself wrong. The grassy roof is supposed to be compensation to San Diego residents, for losing the open access to our harbor. No, the CC users won't hang out there, but wealthy boaters who park in the ocean dock lot might stroll up to the roof; it would be a nice vantage point to admire their yachts prior to spending a wad on nearby dining.— February 2, 2014 11:03 a.m.

All Things BBQ: Lightnin' Jack's
You are welcome. It's an easy recipe to adjust, too. You can add a bit more flour/less meal, if you want. Ground pepper, crumbled bacon, pork cracklins, green or any kind of onions, any kind of diced peppers or herbs, a little grated cheese, ...whatever...can be added to the batter. Also, if you want to tinker with the liquid, instead of buttermilk you can curdle milk with lemon juice or vinegar and add whole plain yogurt or sour cream. And...if you want some sweetness, add it after baking by smearing pieces with honey or maple syrup or jam.— January 22, 2014 2:27 p.m.
Public balks at Balboa Park "West End"
Your previous article was very good, and thanks for the followup. I looked at the Walcher website. It has good info about the museums' exhibits, plus it includes an offer for a year-long pass to all of BP's institutions ($99 Seniors/students; $129 adults; $199 family). The pass is something I've wanted for a long time. The pass is offered on the [Balboa Park website][1]. What baffles me is why BP institutions wasted funds paying a PR firm to do promotion. The park website is the top hit by anyone searching "Balboa Park." To remind park visitors that bridge closure will be temporary and won't impact museums, the campaign "Balboa Park Museums and Theaters Are Open During Bridge Rehab" would have been more informative than the oblique "West End" campaign. But you probably couldn't charge much for that. [1]: http://www.balboapark.org/explorer— January 22, 2014 8:57 a.m.
Will Nicolas Marsch get invited to Jewel Ball?
Wow. I guess Beautiful People Patricia's answer in March 2013 was based on what she has recently learned about being dishonest. Given the outcome that the Marsch family experienced when they tried lying, not surprising. I'd also really dislike uncompassionate judges.— January 22, 2014 8:26 a.m.

Yes! As a former editor for an international publisher, I support this complaint. In addition, it's amazing how many typos one sees in television news crawls.— January 21, 2014 5:33 p.m.
