Who would you cast to star in a Diana Vreeland biopic?
Robbie De Niro. But he's looking like Bernie Madoff these days! http://sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2012/sep/2…— September 23, 2012 8:11 p.m.
Dig a Hole: Tony Scott
OK, guilty pleasures of Tony Scott: The Hunger, Top Gun, True Romance, and Domino. His cinematography went to hell, I believe, starting with The Fan; which I could never get through. Even Domino is practically unwatchable because it looks so bad; like MTV. I've seen better cinematography on the Jersey Shore.— August 21, 2012 10:06 a.m.
The Jerry Lewis Labor Day Teleth...Marathon
I took Jerry's telethon for granted all these years. God bless those with VCR's.— August 17, 2012 11:39 a.m.
The Jerry Lewis Labor Day Teleth...Marathon
Seeing a pristine restored (digital clean up, I presume) print on TCM in HD of The BIg Mouth was breath taking to look at alone, on top of the none stop laughs. I was floored. Just checked out Woody's Manhattan again. Woody's films age like wine, the best of em', only get better. Great cinematography and tremendous laughs. On a lesser, note, my last night disppointment (not Bob): The strange case of Angelica a film by Manoel de Oliveira. Looked great, the first 19 or so minutes it had me hooked, and then it became a snooze fest. There was really no story.— August 17, 2012 11:35 a.m.
Hoggish Peter Jackson Adds 9 Hours to Moviegoers Lives With Hobbit Trilogy
Remember at the end of Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie they turn around in the screening room and ask 'how was it?', and Spielberg says it was a good movie? That was priceless. Jackson must have had similar moments with Spielberg and Lucas.— August 2, 2012 12:42 p.m.
Bronx or Raging, LaMotta Sequel Sounds Like Bull
They shouldn't be allowed to have 'Bull' in the title. Last night I fessed up and was able to finally take a critical look at The Departed, and once I got beyond the fake Boston accents, Leo's squeaky voice, Jack's bullshit (one of my favorite actor's, but he was unconvincing), a lame thrown in love triangle, and most of all: Mark Walhberg's hair (what the hell? he looks one of the Three Stooges), I must say it was a fine 90 million dollar B movie.— August 2, 2012 12:24 p.m.
None
I can't watch any Todd Solo films. Who says being a film writer is easy? Damn hard work! That new Dark Knight is almost three hours. I finally saw Appaloosa with Brando. Wow, that was great all around. I also was finally able to sit through a HD version of Beatty's Dick Tracy. It took me 22 years and I must say it's a great film. Did you see Snowfire? Snowfire has no right to be good and it was well worth watching. I'm sold, the horse can talk!— July 31, 2012 8:04 a.m.
DVD Rentals: Jerry Lewis & Tony Curtis in Boeing (707) Boeing (707)
I sadly have an old VHS copy in my closet that needs to go in the trash. I'm still buzzing off the pristine restored, and I assume, digitally washed, Lewis directed prints (The Big Mouth & Three on a Couch) I saw on TCM not too long ago. Those films were great. I really need to go through the fire and see every film the man did, but I'm reluctant to start buying DVD's with half ass transfers; and I'm dreaming on TCM (cleaned up print) Jerry fest. Paramount 2012 star photo with 100 plus stars deserved and undeserved has Jerry Lewis at the bottom middle. You'd think they'd give the man a chair to sit in! No! Harrison Ford gets a chair with Speilpuke hovering over him. Sadly I don't even know who half these new kids are. Looks like Bieber up in the right hanging off the stairs and DeNiro at the bottom on the left looks sour as hell. Check it out: http://i.imgur.com/VFU7m.jpg— June 13, 2012 12:44 p.m.
Midnight Madness Returns In Style to The Ken
"You have to take the Spielberg and Rocky Horror with the good..." No you don't, Scott; and speaking of good B level midnight fair, just saw The Last Hard Men on Encore Westerns in all its pan and scan glory (can't Encore up to letterbox and HD? goddammit), and it was quite enjoyable. I also enjoyed Geronimo with Chuck Conners recently on TCM. It's a shame that DP's can't shoot films that look half of as good as Geronimo today with minimal close-up shots. Just think how much better Moneyball and the Ides of March would be if there weren't so many close-ups? DP's today seem to think they have talent cause they show every pore and line on an actor's face.— June 12, 2012 2:40 p.m.
Some Lick It Hot: Hotel Del Coronado Celebrates Billy Wilder Stamp
It's a toss between Wilder and Huston. Neither deserves a stamp.— May 31, 2012 1:49 p.m.
