Just what authority will Council President Todd Gloria have after taking control of Mayor's Office?
I noticed that City Attorney Goldsmith toned down his rhetoric. He may come to realized that he has a very important role to play. He will not have Filner to blame, or if he does blame Filner, it will not help. Goldsmith may well begin to understand the importance of his role. I hope that he does not become the tool of developers. That would continue conflict in San Diego. There are more registered Democrats here. The demographics are changing. His record so far has been mixed.— August 24, 2013 5:44 p.m.

City will indemnify resigning Filner, with some hedges
A few comments are in order. First, I must agree that Filner will not likely get a change of venue. In a civil case, the plaintiff's choice of venue, and where the witnesses and parties are located, is given great respect by the courts in a civil case, at where two governmental agencies are not involved. The city is now out with the adoption of the settlement agreement and Filner is not a governmental agency. I have not read Harvey Berger's papers to be filed in court because, as of Friday, they had not been filed, according to the calendar clerk in Judge Strauss' Department (as of noon). Secondly, this blog has been joined by some who seem to believe that Don Bauder wrote Filner's PhD. dissertation and masterminded Filner's ten election campaigns to Congress. I give Don Bauder much credit if he accomplished all of this for any politician. Obviously, he did not; it would be less annoying if bloggers did not continually and repeatedly suggest he did. That reflects on the bloggers general intelligence and integrity. We call then trolls..... They actually know better. Lastly, I will repeat again that greedy developers and timid Democrats who fear being abandoned by the "feminists" have thrown a man out of office for their own reasons. NONE, or virtually NONE of these same people tried to oust Governor Arnold. Did Papa Doug, or the San Diego bathroom master-baiter? Hardly!!! They supported the "movie star." Gropenator they called him BEFORE the recall. I see the silicon groupies surround Pap Doug in photos. After seeing the medical records of hundreds of cases of plaintiffs in the Dow case, this is a tragedy (in most cases) far worse than a pinched butt. I support those who actually need cosmetic surgeries, including breast augmentation. But to do this to please sick old men is NOT supporting women or women's rights in any manner whatsoever. So wave your flags and beat your Bible, your "devil"has been banished from the Garden - you have thrown the first stone. I suspect that the devil is an inner demon... but that's another story. Go to Hooters and drink up! Your "stadium for head injury" and your convention center are on the way. Look at the boobs, drink your beer, over-build the remnants of what is left of San Diego. I can see why Don lives in Colorado.— August 24, 2013 9:33 a.m.

I would not have voted for DeMaio. You and I have the experience in life and politics to see the dialectical reality. The rich have gotten 10X more of an increase in income during the past 11 years than did everyone else. I guess that means they worked 10x harder than everyone else to some people who ignore the way th financial pie is divided. Women do better with more income and education. Those who favor policies that make the rich richer do far more harm to women than getting a pat on the butt, patronizing though it might be. Half of the victims admt that nothing happened. 99.9% of women will do worse financially under "conservatve" policies. Was Filner wrong, if he did it? Sure. But it was all about regime change for money.— August 23, 2013 7:54 p.m.

The right wing accomplished regime change using the hostile work place/sexual harassment Card. This reminded me of a version of Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe. The cast of characters included many of San Diego's brightest and richest. After listening to the players, I could not help but grieve the loss of a good man with a vision, torn apart by the media, a media largely controlled by those exact persons who stand to profit most. Women must be protected in the work place - I am the first to agree. But the shrill, largely self-serving Gloria Allred with her client who now speaks several decibels louder than she did at the first press conference grated on my nerves. I can only hope that Judge Richard Strauss will transfer the Gloria Allred circus to El Centro.— August 23, 2013 6:18 p.m.
DeMaio may change his mind, run for mayor
DeMaio based his mayorial candidacy on his ballot measure that was ruled unconstitutional. He has allegations of masturbation in public. What exactly will he bring to San Diego? Does he deserve due process? As much as he offered Filner who was tried in the press. I am not that wild about Fletcher who is a DINO. I hope a truly dynamic progressive could throw his hat in the ring. Dream on....— August 23, 2013 4:37 p.m.
Motion to quash case against Bob Filner scheduled for September 16
Sorry, misunderstood. The City does not admit that Filner did it for purposes of their cross-complaint, they just say that, if he did it or he and they are help liable for his actions, the city wants their indemnity for their fees and costs as well as any money they pay out for damages. That Filner should resign is a resolution.— August 23, 2013 2:47 p.m.
