Wake Up, Speak Up
From what I read in the articles, vintage soul, and I could be wrong, an alcohol ban was discussed before there was discussion about the year long evaluation period. If you read the articles, their case is logical and persuasive. The increase in alcohol related issues at the Park increased after the beach booze ban went into effect. Witnesses have stated, and police arrests seem to support this, that they have observed a number of keg parties, loud amplified music, public urination, destruction of park property. It appears, again just from reading the articles without any firsthand knowledge, that problems related to alcohol use at the park seemed to be increasing, certainly not abating, according to Friends of Kate Sessions, despite SDPD's increased efforts (assuming this), and I don't see that another month or two would have made any difference. However, if that is your position, then do go and argue it before the Board, or to your council rep. As to how difficult the park and rec website is to navigate, I must say I found it easier than the Reader website to use. You google san diego park and rec, it will give you the official website, once you click on and open that link, the first column on the page lists boards and committees, you click that link the first thing that comes up is the Park and Rec Board and below that a phone number for staff. I don't know how much easier it can get. Further, people can always call the City info line, 211, and they will tell you who to call.— April 19, 2010 3:58 p.m.

LOLOLOL@nan!!! Lily, you are a bit late to the party. Unless you also slept with Michael Jackson. Jon Gosselin's been trying to hook up with me but to tell the truth, I'm a little scared of Kate. John Edwards destroyed all of our sex tapes, too bad, I really could have used the cash.— April 19, 2010 3:40 p.m.
a homage to one of Cuddles favorite poems
Awww thanks nan, yes that is one of my all time favorite poems, and as a bonus you included one of my all time favorite songs, Lady in Red. And your poem is wonderful, too!!!! What a great thread! :) Factoid for Joe: Both sexes like red. Men prefer orange-based red, and women prefer blue-based red. In the video, for example, at 3:30, the two lipsticks side by side, one is orange based, the other blue based.— April 19, 2010 3:24 p.m.
hangin' out with the 3 ply stainless steel
Oh nan, these enchanting stories go straight to my heart, thank you. You really do make Chicken Soup for the Soul taste so good. Don't get rid of those pots!!! xxxx— April 19, 2010 3:16 p.m.
Wake Up, Speak Up
As to the meeting times, I believe Friends of Kate Sessions meets in the evenings, all Rec Councils meet in the evenings, the Community Parks I and II meet in the evenings. If you missed those three meetings (plus I believe this was also discussed before the PB town council) which were the three (or four) which local residents should be able to attend, and you know want to complain that the Park and Rec board meets in the afternoons, well, I don't know what to say. Also, vintage soul, you don't have to be there at the Board meeting in person to speak about this matter, you can call and register your opinion, or you can write a letter, or you can call your Council rep's office. I personally have no dog in this alcohol ban fight, since I don't use that park. My comments from the beginning have only gone to the process. There is a process and it is very open to community involvement and public input. It gripes me when people come in and say, There was no public notice, no public involvement. Sure there was. Plenty of it. And there are more opportunities for public involvement. All it takes is a minimum amount of effort. Less fake outrage, more real participation in the process.— April 19, 2010 3:04 p.m.
Getting The Check
Thanks for your comments, Grasca, yes the Social Security office can be a scary place for those who are desperate and don't have the patience or smarts to deal with the system. I think I could have gotten an appointment, but I would have had to wait for another two or three weeks and I just wanted to get this mess all straightened out. Plus, to be honest, the other times I had come in had never been as bad as this visit, but it was the beginning of the month and the Monday after a holiday, so I think I caught the worst of it just by virtue of bad timing.— April 19, 2010 2:50 p.m.
Getting The Check
Awww nan, what a lovely story, it would have made another lovely thread about Bobby, a person I love to read about because you portray him so wonderfully well. Yes, I wish all government offices were like the one you visited, but unfortunately in big cities, I think the workers get jaded, I could tell talking to them that they didn't want to hear what people had to say, they just wanted us all to go away. As to reposting, well, here it is, for all the world to see, with the ticket. I see by the date on it and the date I posted that I must have come straight home and worked on writing that thread, that was how badly I needed to talk about that experience with the people here; good or bad, you all are my community, I like hearing about you and I hope whether you respond or not that you take something away from my threads.— April 19, 2010 2:46 p.m.
Getting The Check
Thank you, MsGrant. Usually you have to turn your ticket in at the window, and for some reason they forgot to collect it. I didn't throw it away in case I needed it to fight the expected parking ticket, which I luckily didn't get. I kept hanging on to it, then I scanned it into my computer, and I still have the actual paper ticket. I starting thinking about why I had kept it and realized that the experience was etched in my mind precisely for the reason you have just touched on: people, often people in desperate situations, reduced to being a number. I thought adding it would be the perfect visual for this thread.— April 19, 2010 10:59 a.m.
