Bonus Blog: Worst and Best Romance Movies
Romeo and Juliet??? It's been a while, but as I recall her nurse knew, the friar knew, didn't one of his friends know, but more to the point, even if they had been discovered, the affair would have fallen within the norms of society. As I further recall, the whole purpose in their getting married was so the two families would eventually be reunited; that presumes that eventually everyone will know and accept their marriage. In BB, the two protags have no prospects of ever being able to tell anyone, and they never do tell anyone. When their boss finds out he won't hire them anymore, when Ennis' wife finds out, she eventually divorces him, and even then it takes her forever to confront him, and he nearly kills her for speaking of it. This is something that simply can't be spoken of. Taming of the Shrew, again, the protags could eventually admit to themselves and others that they were in love. In BB there is never the possibility the two protags can or will admit who they are; remember at the beginning of the movie, they say, I'm not queer. They spend the rest of their lives denying who and what they are. I think that's part of what's so moving about them is that there is never the possibility that they can be together. Anyway, I love the movie. If it is flawed, I don't see it. :)— January 17, 2010 10:23 p.m.

Okay, Chargers are done, stick a fork in them, now back to this thread. :) By the way, there are some fluff movies that aren't terrible, Maid in Manhattan, Weddding Planner, Dave, Roman Holiday, Terms of Endearment. Starman, kind of in the weird category, I guess. I haven't seen the Notebook, in fact, I haven't seen a lot of recent movies so didn't comment on those. Officer and a Gentleman, meh. Muriel's Wedding, I didn't get what all the fuss was about. My Big Fat Greek Wedding, I thought it was cute. Urban Cowboy, sorry but I liked it. Another weird one, The Spy Who Came In From The Cold. Another one I hated to like, As Good As It Gets.— January 17, 2010 4:35 p.m.

Oh My God, the Chargers! How hard can it be to beat the Jets????? Oh, one more thing: I really really really hate that "Unchained Melody" was the thematic song in that hideous movie "Ghost," and of course Whoopi Goldberg has got to be the worst actress since Andie MacDowell!!!— January 17, 2010 4:02 p.m.
