The SUPREMES
maninthemirror, you gave a longer, and fuller, explanation of exactly my thoughts and opinion on this matter. Including the Winston Churchill quote. I also was a Dem all my life until the last election. The most recent elections are proving out my wisdom. :)— February 9, 2010 10:37 p.m.
Mayor Jerry Sanders
People like you, Mr. Magown, don't know me at all.— February 9, 2010 10:25 p.m.

I knew about it. I can name the Supreme Court justices. I know who my Congressional representative is. I know who my City Council member is. I know who my County Supervisor is. I am not complacent. What in the world is your point?— February 9, 2010 6:28 p.m.

Hey, I don't run the city and I don't run the city employee union and I don't run the police department or their union or the fire department or their union. And BTW the community service center in this area, right next to the police station, is closed. The park and rec department has reduced its hours. The library has reduced its hours. I don't know where YOU live, but here in my community, the poorest in the city, we've been feeling the pinch, uh let's see .... ALL MY LIFE. Am I worried about the police or the fire department or lifeguards not doing their job? Well, I'd consider that irresponsible and unprofessional. Is that what you are trying to imply?— February 9, 2010 3:38 p.m.

Where in the world do you get this stuff from? MoveOn.org? Freedom of speech means freedom of speech. Period. If you don't like what the lobbyists say to your politicians, oh well, they pay handsomely for the privilege. If you don't like what your politicians are doing in return for what they get from the lobbyists, work on the opposition's campaign. Democracy in America is a very simple system and while it is not perfect, it is better than the alternatives.— February 9, 2010 11:21 a.m.
NFL lies about Super Bowl benefits
Come, come, Mr. Bauder. :) If we ever want to grow out of this awkward adolescence we are currently stuck in, and become the city New York and Los Angeles never became, then we are going to have to break eggs and make sausage. Ugly beginnings make for good meals in the end. I'm immensely grateful you are in the kitchen supervising the cooks and making sure they aren't taking any shortcuts or spitting in the food, but don't forget where the process should lead. We lifelong residents who haven't bailed eventually will see at least the beginnings of one of the great cities of the world, God willing and the creek don't rise.— February 9, 2010 9:34 a.m.
Valentine's Day, Massacred
I am re-posting my post, edited. 2.#2.Thanks for this thread, kstaff. I think, perhaps, no one meets the expectations these holidays set up for us. At Christmas, we may never feel like the ideal family, our birthdays may remind us of all our old hurts, or that we haven't achieved all we expected to, Valentine's make us feel like we may never had the love we always wanted, Mother's Day makes us feel guilty. It's very hard to pretend a happiness you don't feel. It may be a question of degrees: If I am unhappy, perhaps others are even less happy. But I think my head still hurts even if others have cancer. I may complain less but nevertheless my head still hurts. Pain is pain. Yearning is one of the worst owies ever. By CuddleFish 7:50 a.m., Feb 9, 2010— February 9, 2010 9:23 a.m.

And yes, I'm sorry to see the canine units and Mounted patrols go. Very sorry. These are hard times. Until the City can get control of the budget and the country gets out of the recession, both huge maybes, then some things will have to be cut. And no one, no matter how special they think they might be, is immune.— February 9, 2010 9:21 a.m.

Well that isn't quite fair. Money to build buildings is different from money to pay police officers and different from money to fund pensions. For example, nearly every time there's a ballot, people can vote on funds to build new libraries or parks. Those monies sit there until a municipality requests them. But a park or a library may not be built for a variety of reasons, even though there's money available, including the fact that there isn't the money to pay for staffing or maintenance at that park or library. Hint: The downtown library, City Hall, and many other projects some of us think should get built (not those enormous monuments to egos currently being envisioned, but something more moderate) can't get built because of the huge pay and pension benefits City employees are receiving. You guys dug your own hole. Now Sanders is making you pay for it. Payback is a bitch.— February 9, 2010 9:18 a.m.
