Dumanis Campaign Draws New Supporters
Getting Irwin Jacobs' support is certainly significant. The tech people were flocking to Fletcher. Maybe some of them now will give Dumanis a look.— September 19, 2011 8:27 p.m.
State Bar Looking at Shames Again
Uh, remove the > sign at the end of the link I just posted and it will work. Can't the Reader fix this glitch with hyperlinks?— September 13, 2011 4:03 p.m.
State Bar Looking at Shames Again
Okay, now I see why it's hard to post the link. Perhaps this shortened one will work: http://j.mp/pZrRQs— September 13, 2011 4:01 p.m.
State Bar Looking at Shames Again
The document in question appears to be this one: http://www.povertylaw.org/poverty-law-library/cas… If this is the document, where in it does Shames identify himself as an attorney?— September 13, 2011 3:59 p.m.
Platinum Equity Buys Publishing Software Maker
Visduh said what I thought - that buying Quark was a strategic move based on its interest in media.— August 10, 2011 8:05 a.m.
Arizona Daily Star Layoffs Cast Long Shadow Over North County Times
As a North County Times employee, I extend my sympathies to those laid off from the Daily Star, and hope we will avoid that long shadow of additional layoffs. (DISCLAIMER: This is just me speaking, but I believe my colleagues feel the same way. We haven't given up!) Since we're in the information business, we can scarcely escape hearing the gloomy news. But we're still working hard to show that newspapers, in print and online, have a place in the 21st century. Also, kudos to the SD Reader for stepping up the frequency and extent of its blogs.— July 22, 2011 12:46 a.m.
Taxpayers' Association Forms, Takes On Insurance Companies
Visduh, it's extremely common for interest group organizations to use totally deceptive names. The "Committee to Save Cute Li'l Baby Seals," may well be protecting seal hunters. Also, organizations that are technically non-partisan can be in fact intensely political. All non-partisan means is that they don't officially endorse a political party. They are free to line up with issues backed by one party or another. Many reporters deceive the public by describing political lobbying outfits as non-partisan, without informing the public of their political agenda. The California Budget Project is one such technically nonpartisan group, often quoted as an objective expert on the budget, when it's actually a left-leaning group. Time magazine deserves credit for properly describing the CBP: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,19… Here's a game: Name a political organization that uses the nonpartisan moniker to pass itself off as nonpolitical.— July 9, 2011 5:48 p.m.
Taxpayers' Association Forms, Takes On Insurance Companies
SurfPuppy619, that's not going to happen. The name is deceptive, this is a union group with a left of center political orientation: Just look at its board of directors: http://www.middleclasstaxpayers.org/Board.html This group will rail against big business, but not against big labor. It will support lefty Democrats and their causes, and oppose conservative Republicans and Libertarians. And don't expect this group to support tax cuts, except when combined with higher taxes on "the wealthy".— July 8, 2011 10:22 a.m.
Sheriff Looking To Order Some Heavy Iron
Matt, thanks for the condolences. I don't think RR has changed his beliefs at all, this is a decision that the GOP is now more effective as a vehicle for advancing Libertarian ideals. Still, it's a loss for us still in the Party of the Porcupine. belowthesurface, sadly, http://sdrostra.com/?p=16269 it's absolutely true. The U-T's Diane Bell http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/jun/03/as… follows up on the SD Rostra scoop.— June 5, 2011 12:51 p.m.
Sheriff Looking To Order Some Heavy Iron
Visduh, as a reporter who's edited stories, those things leap out at me. They appear in the most innocent of places. In my long-ago college days, one of my journalism teachers said a copy editor has to have a dirty mind. Of course, he was absolutely right.— June 4, 2011 7:17 p.m.
