Check out Carl's virtual town hall

This is a captured segment of the actual live event, but you can have some fun typing in your own question.
Let it play out the short capture, then watch Carl stare, fidget, and repeatedly tell you about the city potholes/graffiti/dead animals app.
Note the virtual office and virtual city buildings. What could better epitomize San Diego government? After all, Sanders was elected after promoting himself as the CFO of a company named Virtual Capital Corporation. — October 25, 2011 11:53 a.m.
Fraudulent Block Grant Claims
Wow, you would have thought with all of the post-HUD investigation new rules/regs about CDBG allocations that the city wouldn't let anything like this slip by. Guess the oversight isn't really there, as advertised.— October 27, 2011 11:58 a.m.

Nowhere Near Bankruptcy?
Great story, Visduh. I've also been the recipient of Todd Gloria's patronizing smiles and nonresponses. He reminds me of one of those people who line up and rush through the doors of WalMart, trampling anyone who is weaker. By the way, WalMart and their political lobbyists LOVE privatization freaks. Especially little fishies like Todd, who is equivalent to a minor hangnail to the WalMart Corp.— October 24, 2011 6:47 p.m.
The After-MAD in Golden Hill
Dorian, thanks for the last paragraph in your article. It's good to know how the City and the County Property Tax Division will handle the assessment on this year's tax bill. Both the City and the County have the mailing addresses of all of the assessed property owners in the GGH district, so I hope the City takes the initiative to mail out refunds. It would be too cute by half if the City sets it up so that property owners have to apply for a refund.— October 24, 2011 1:16 p.m.
Cherokee Nation, Oklahoma
The egocentric term "Five Civilized Tribes" was assigned by white US government officials, smugly referring to the tendency of many members of the Cherokees, Chickasaws, Choctaws, Creeks, and Seminoles to wear Euro-style clothing and adopt Euro-based customs (housing, food).— October 24, 2011 9:32 a.m.
Cherokee Nation, Oklahoma
The history of the entire area called "Indian Territory" is fascinating. For a good historical start, you can Wiki "Indian Territory" and "Five Civilized Tribes." Then, for a good read, author Arthur T. Burton's books - see http://artburton.com/ - provide real stories and great descriptions of daily life and the racial hierarchies in what would eventually become the State of Oklahoma. Native Americans that were removed by the US Government from the eastern seaboard in the 1830s actually had black slaves, which they brought with them to the Territory. After the Civil War, these African-American slaves were freed and thus became part of the Territory's "Freedmen," with land rights of the other legal Territory citizens.— October 24, 2011 9:22 a.m.

The After-MAD in Golden Hill
Great comment. Perfectly describes what it WAS and is no more. The most amazing thing Todd Gloria said at the meeting was that the City could possibly arrange "mediation." Mediation??? Between which parties? Between the three justices in the appellate court, the Superior Court judge, and the CDC board members? I'd like to see how that goes! The people who filed a suit, because the assessment was unconstitutional, won. The courts mediated for them. Save the City's money, Todd.— October 24, 2011 8:37 a.m.

Signs — the Message of the Occupiers
Great photos. Could Reader set up an OccupySD "neighborhood" so that we could submit our photos of the signage? That would be really neat. I've got some good photos of Day 1.— October 10, 2011 3:08 p.m.
