Name shame
Here are a couple of individuals professing that these public celebrations are not inclusive because they have in their description a reference to something faith based. I personally have never attended a religious or cultural celebration that did not openly welcome people of other faiths and cultures that desired to attend. That includes “All the Christmas Parades & Celebrations of other faiths and cultures that I have ever attended”. It’s great fun to experience the customs and celebrations of others different from our own. This is a small part of what makes America Great! Radical Muslims excluded for obvious reasons that they currently strictly profess not being inclusive… I see the real issue is Howard & Teddy attempting to impose their will and discriminate against others that wish to celebrate something unique to their beliefs. It does not exist in this world a single belief that is shared by all. Thus they would impose that we not celebrate any belief or culture independent of all others as they are not representative of the beliefs or heritage of all that inhabit this planet. Actually the vast majority of faiths and cultures are welcoming of others, so they are inclusive. It simply is that others choose not to share in those beliefs not that they are barred or prohibited. Howard & Teddy are free to organize and celebrate whatever they like especially if all are welcome and it is not offensive. I am left to wonder if these two and those that share their ideology are actually prejudice at a minimum they are attempting to control others by limiting their freedoms. Does this stem from their own hatred and lack of tolerance for others beliefs? This is America and regardless of the fact that America was founded on the principles of Christianity, America is as are most Americans inclusive of others. It would be so nice for Howard & Teddy to stop trying to impose their hatred and intolerance for others and let other Americans continue to celebrate their free will and beliefs as we have since we were founded. Give us all and especially the kid’s a break. Freedom is great, like Howard & Teddy you two are free to move as far away from here as you desire, please.— August 20, 2014 1:14 p.m.
Schooled!
Sweetdaddy, LenningSmasher is correct. I believe you need to familiarize yourself with the laws regarding becoming a US President. The candidate has to have been physically born in the USA or on a US Military Base of parents that are US Citizens. Please check the laws to make sure I/we are correct.— November 22, 2013 2:24 p.m.
Wedding at Carlsbad’s Ponto Beach honors deceased friend
It's great to see functions like that being held on what many of us consider a beautiful and inspiring location. Congrats to the Hangartners on their Marriage and their honoring a good friend. Regarding the State Parks great to hear they allow and want more events. If they really want to "encourage numerous events" they may want to consider lowering the cost from the $2,000 what it most likely cost the Hangartners for their wedding function. Wow! That's a lot for a good quality beach party, thanks gov. for renting us our own beach!— September 21, 2013 8:26 a.m.
San Diego sheriffs choose 9/11 to conduct parolee check
Thank you for the article. I was curious what was going on. I leave it to those whose responsibility it is to protect us and have the knowledge of these parolees to decide what is best for public safety. Litning implies they know the history of these convicted felons. I highly doubt that! But at least you found a forum to get out your worthless rant. Thanks for nothing. With over 25% being in violation of their parole that should be enough to warrant the actions taken. Duhbya. Really? You're bothered by those who are sworn to defend us showing support for someone who gave their life in the line of duty, defending us? REALLY? Submariner Get a life! Who knew that by the author reporting on this event he would bring out such ungrateful loonies. Now go ahead and correct me and tell me what I meant to say (you must be great at cocktail parties).— September 17, 2013 8:51 a.m.
neighborhoods/cardiff-by-the-sea -- Cardiff-by-the-Sea
That is so cool you put this out for ideas as I have been hoping the City would do something great with this this very visual property. But given the traffic influence a children's park would be to scary... it would most likely have to be something along the lines of an artistic monument or view tower or .... Why we're pondering..Can we please get all the overhead lines underground?!— March 13, 2013 11:30 p.m.
neighborhoods/cardiff-by-the-sea -- Cardiff-by-the-Sea
I agree! Maybe they'll consider making one night a week a "Local's Night" where locals get a free beer with a pie... Little timely history...Besta-Wan was the first Pizza Place in Encinitas / Cardiff maybe even further out (as far as I know and remember at age 6). Besta-Wan opened 48 years ago yesterday according to Joe Corder who's Parents opened it March 12th, 1965.— March 13, 2013 11:22 p.m.
Media Coverage of Boy Scout Abuse Cases Unfair?
Few matters are more serious than this. As you expressed in your story this organization has since implemented protection policies that for years now are an example of how these horrifically tragic acts can be prevented and reported correctly. It is also good that these files were released if for no other reason than to make other organizations aware of the great policy's the Boy Scouts have developed and implemented to hopefully prevent these atrocities from ever happening again. I applaud the Boy Scouts for being proactive in their development of these policies to protect our children. And if anything does happen to fully to notify and fully cooperate with the authorities to prosecute anyone who would dare to steal a child's innocence. Great Article Mr. Harrison. Scouting is great for kids!— October 22, 2012 9:07 a.m.
Dunkin' Donuts’ First California Shop Opens on Camp Pendleton
I thought there was one in San Marcos not too long ago (SMBlvd & RSF Rd). Maybe I am wrong...— May 30, 2012 9:55 p.m.
Cardiff to Get a New Fire Station on Birmingham Drive
Great article KH, as many have been curious of the sites entire plan. I feel the city of Encinitas should purchase the neighboring Historical Animal House and keep the existing Firestation for expansion of the ingress/egress or for other City Services. A.H. Alumnus.— August 28, 2011 12:03 p.m.
Funding Approved for Underground Pedestrian Tunnel in Encinitas
Great story Mr. Harrison. Please let us know if there is anything those of us opposed to this project can do to stop it. We need to do what it takes to bring common sense to these elected officials regarding this gross waist of money and creation of a problem not a solution! The train tracks are an economic obsolescence that could be converted into a treasure for our pristine coastal corridor by tunneling the tracks and building parks above them. 300 yards of every 400 yards can be covered and made into parks and parking spaces (open areas are necessary according to some rules for the trains engines or something..). If money is available we should tunnel the tracks and build parks above them as they did in San Diego above the 15 freeway south of El Cajon Blvd. (not exactly pristine coastal property, but good for the hood...). Tunnel the train not the Pedestrians... Imagine how awesome it would be to see parks alongside historic PCH as everyone rolls into Cardiff & Leucadia, great first impression and public resource.— May 12, 2011 10 a.m.
