It would be a refreshing change if US aid to foreign countries went to the people who needed it instead of the dictator who doesn't. In many cases, the money goes for weapons that are used by that government against the citizens who are starving in the streets. The US war machine has created and supported more corrupt governments than Russia or China and US citizens are too distracted to notice.

"Black men and women speaking French on the streets of TJ is not the kind of thing that blends into the homogeneous demographic tapestry."

TJ is homogeneous? I've heard Chinese, English, all sorts of Spanish, Spanglish, different Native Mexican dialects, Persian, German.... seen people from all parts of the world.

From what I understand there are lot of shady, possibly illegal, things one can find scrolling through your local Craigslist page. The thing about these ads/posts is they appear to be from reputable modeling agencies. As is evident, that's not always the case. Thanks, DWBat! -dH

"McCabe and Mrs. Miller" and "Romeo and Juliet" are both gorgeous to look at and insanely romantic. I have always been too scared to go see "Reservoir Dogs." "Seven Samurai" is required viewing, but not more than once, in my opinion.

Use less, pay more, how does that help with conservation? Meanwhile SDGE wants to build more "peaker" power plants that are hugely expensive and only run part time.

Conservation of CASH. Sempra likes to conserve THEIR cash by forcing ratepayers to pay for maintainence and upkeep of power lines.

In the USA, like other third world countries, people with a badge are above the law.

Does anyone have any confirmed stories of Americans who wind up robbed or dead in Mexico that didn't go there looking for trouble? And I do consider camping by yourself on a remote beach looking for trouble.

I've never had anything happen to me in Mexico that couldn't or didn't happen in the US. But I also don't look for drugs or prostitutes or hang out in obviously bad parts of town. I'll be in Ensenada next weekend, and I fully expect to have nothing but a good time.

It's good to be the Queen: in a period in which she really was not campaigning for anything she spent over $380,000 on wining, dining and a family trip to Cuba, all of it tax-free money.

Even after this latest spending binge, she still has over $1.8 million more of tax free money floating around in three accounts.

Ever wonder why politicians work so hard to get reelected: this is it. That money buys comfort AND influence and you can just as easy use it to crush opponents as you can to pay $3,700 restaurant bills and $5,000 galas.

It's bad enough and then to try to justify, say, the trip to Cuba with "The Assembly wants to do everything we can to create more jobs and business in California."

Yep Toni, the Cubans needed to hear you tell them that they should create some new jobs and businesses in California. Maybe some Florida-style Cuban cafeterias in former Roberto's sites might work.

I don't care who wins the Marty-Toni faceoff but when we see this kind of influence-peddling for and by an elected official it's clear the public loses. Toni is an alleged progressive, but her special interests donor lists looks a lot like what a top state Republican politician would have too (if we actually had such a thing as a "top" Republican)

SEMPRA, the beer companies, insurance companies and big unions: those are the constituents of the Toni Atkins and the state legislature, but no wonder - they treat her better than you or I do. When was the last time you bought her lunch or dinner?

Speaker Atkins is accusing Sen. Marty Block of dishonesty regarding the upcoming Senate race, saying that he changed his mind about running for re-election in 2016 and had promised to free up the seat for her. (The way Atkins describes it, it sounds like a deal was negotiated secretly in a smoke-filled room.) Apparently she has not been so honest herself, and/or has also changed her mind, since her Committee that was raising money was named Atkins for Senate 2020. Not too kosher.

I don't need Atkins help blowing my tax dollars away. We have enough clowns doing that already. To bad she didn't stay in Cuba. Her and the rest of the Democrats are running this state in to the ground. She is the problem, not the solution.

Everything is wrong with that. Everyone signs a contract for everything from credit card agreements to mortgage contracts. No business does anything without a written agreement. Every worker should have a written agreement with their employer. No employee should be at the mercy or whim of their employer. For most of us our source of income and benefits come from the employer. No worker should be fired or disciplined without cause. Most workers think that their employer will treat them fairly and some do but most do not. It is ridiculous that the most important thing we do has no written agreement.
