Wanted Noise will bring Easy Listening to a Punk Rock Rodeo
Punk Rock Rodeo returns to Ocean Beach on March 20 and 21, with a free all-ages outdoor stage in the Hodad's parking lot, and additional performances and events at Winstons, Humble Heart, Art Up Your Life, and The Holding Company.

Known for a pop-punk sound influenced by bands like Green Day and Blink-182, locals Wanted Noise will be debuting new music for their Friday, March 20 appearance at the Holding Company. The Pacific Beach punk band's new single “Burn The Time Away” precedes their upcoming studio album Easy Listening.
The group was formed in the early 2000-teens with singer-guitarists Suri Sherman (a skate-punk devotee) and Caleb Adkins (who played in a ska-punk outfit while in high school) and drummer Taylor Wagner (a hard rock player who never even listened to punk until recently) later joined by bassist Matt Lappin. They first earned notice when a seven song EP called Plate Lunch was released in 2017, after which the band embarked on their first tour.
Guitarist/vocalist Suri Sherman told the Reader that the EP title was an homage to the variety-pack nature of the recordings. “The reason why the album’s called Plate Lunch is because our producer, who was from Hawaii, said ‘You guys remind me of a plate lunch of punk rock styles. You’ve got your fast-punk, your reggae/Sublime punk vibes, your shoegaze vibes, your Sum-41 and hardcore vibes. It’s like a plate lunch where you’ve got your beans, meat, and veggies. You’ve got a little sampler of everything.’"
They released a new track in 2018 called "Cigarettes & old Regrets" on a split-single with a punk band from Goleta, CA, Petmedz.
In Autumn 2020, a new single and lyric video debuted for a track called “Go Get,” while May 2021 saw the release of a single and video for "More Sunrises," all previewing their album Next Generation. The video for "More Sunrises," directed and edited by Jeff Dirdack, features the band skateboarding around San Diego in search of beer. A video for their track "Get After It" was filmed around Sunset Cliffs and Pacific Beach.
A Matthew Fitzpatrick-directed video was produced for their single "Clench," also from Next Generation. “‘Clench’ is about clenching your fists and pushing through when life gets hard,” according to Sherman, who says the track dates back to 2014. “It’s about the celebration when your hard work finally pays off...this song has been rewritten over and over again and turned into a collaborative work, with each member of the band contributing significantly to the songwriting process.”
This isn't the band's first Rodeo - they played the 2025 Punk Rock Rodeo headlined by Guttermouth, and have toured Mexico, the U.S., and Canada, sharing stages with everyone from The Ataris to Punk Rock Karaoke. In recent years, they launched their own DIY touring concept, “Hit the Slopes, Hit the Stage,” a punk-rock snowboarding tour merging live shows with mountain weekends.
The most recent single “Burn The Time Away” features the band's new bassist Matt Lappin. "‘Burn The Time Away’ was written about life with our crew in Goleta, where I grew up," according to Suri Sherman, "capturing the duality of living the dream while also facing the tragedy that can come with life on the edge, but experiencing all of it together. Our friends in Petmedz were a huge part of that crew and that era. The chorus is inspired by what it feels like to be a bandleader: you’re one hundred percent committed to the dream no matter what, and sometimes you’re carrying it alone, but you’d way rather be doing it with everyone beside you."
Wanted Noise also recently appeared on a concept album from LA singer/songwriter Mendeleyev, who competed on Season 17 of The Voice, built entirely around Mendeleyev's song “In Waves.” The punk cover appears on an album called Waves (Part 2) featuring other alternate interpretations of the same track by different artists.
Others slated to appear at Punk Rock Rodeo over the two-day event include DPI, Battalion of Saints, Tijuana No!, La Pobreska, No Consent, Mad Cow Disease, Beta7, VCS Band, Busted Coffins, Never Donts, Urethane, War Fever, The Plagues, Guilty by Association, Holding Grudges, McRad, Big Attitude, LoudMouth, Agent Orange, Screamin’ Yeehaws, Galaxy Wolf, Doll Riot, and Rhythm Collision.
