The Game & Anime Orchestra is bringing their A-game May 23
Orchestral Soundtracks to feature Xenoblade Chronicles, Frieren, Genshin Impact, more
Orchestral Soundtracks, San Diego's community videogame and anime orchestra, in partnership with Scarlet Moon, will stage their Spring Concert on Saturday, May 23 at Canyon Crest Academy. "OST came together through a mutual love for music from games and anime," says OST co-founder Charles Li, "and we wanted to create a space to rehearse and perform together."
The concert will include selections from Xenoblade Chronicles, Genshin Impact, Haruhi Suzumiya, Homestuck, Arcane, Beastars, and more. Also expect throwback pieces from The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, ballads from Final Fantasy and Arcane, pieces from the Hoyoverse games and Studio Ghibli films, and fan-favorites from Nier and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.
The orchestra was founded in 2023 by local videogame and anime music fans and is comprised of volunteer musicians from across San Diego. Operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, orchestra members range from life-long musicians to students, both classically-trained and self-taught. They've hosted this annual performance twice in previous years, as well as appearing at events throughout Southern California.

As a community orchestra, tickets to the event will be free and made available on a first-come first-serve basis. All proceeds from donations and merchandise sales go towards supporting the orchestra's functions. Local game music industry labels will also be on hand, including Scarlet Moon and Carlsbad's Streaming Arrow Records, with some offering vinyl records.
Scarlet Moon Records is a videogame music label and production company that publishes and releases original game soundtracks for indie and major titles like Magical Delicacy, Wizard Of Legend, and Mineko's Night Market. They're also known for specialized arrangement albums such as EXCALIBUR: A Tribute to Secret of Mana and for their Prescription for Sleep: Game Music Lullabies series (which arranges videogame tracks into relaxing jazz lullabies), along with curating tribute and compilation albums and promoting game music at events such as the Orchestral Soundtracks performance. Scarlet Moon’s own in-house composer Nami Nakagawa, who resides in Japan, has contributed vocals to large-scale videogames like Tekken and is the famed vocalist who contributed to the Demon Slayer series.
Scarlet Moon has been releasing new Halloween music mixes for several years now, compiling spooky arrangements of videogame music. The label's Halloween album for 2025 featured San Diego talents George "The Fat Man" Sanger (Zombies Ate My Neighbors, 7th Guest, Wing Commander, etc.) and indie rocker ROGOV.
These compilation albums are part passion project and part community service, according to the Halloween compilation series founder Jayson Napolitano. “I see this as an album by and for San Diegans and fans of game music," he told the Reader. "It's a crossover album bridging a cultural divide between popular music and game music, I'd really like to see more opportunities for game music fans to explore new genres and people who are not game music fans to appreciate music from games. I have my own holiday playlists for Halloween and Christmas, and I like to have new music to add to those playlists. I figure there are other fans out there who'd love to have more music for the seasons as well. It's a community service because these albums aren't really meant to make a huge profit for us. We all contribute and split the revenue.”
“Our audience is primarily fans of videogames. That's why you see remixes of videogames on our albums. But because we include originals and the game songs are remixed, it can appeal to any music fan.”
Streaming Arrow was established in 2018 to bring high-quality physical releases of classic and cult albums across a variety of genres, as well as videogame soundtracks from across the world to physical media. "We work with artists representing a wide range of genres," says the company press, "from electronic music to videogame soundtracks and much more, to create high-quality physical releases that collectors, people discovering the music for the first time, and most importantly fans will treasure for years to come."
The company is well-known for releasing high-quality physical media, specifically vinyl and CDs, for niche music, classic LPs, cult albums, and videogame soundtracks including works from the Ys and Legend of Heroes series. They've also released soundtracks from Falcom Sound Team JDK, such as Ys I & II Chronicles and The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky series.
