King Stingray
Co-founded by lead singer Yunupiŋu Yirrnja, the nephew of prominent Aboriginal musician Dr Yunupingu, King Stingray is an Australian band that plays a unique style of music they call Yolŋu surf rock, a genre that blends traditional Yolŋu melodies with funk and surf rock. Their music often features lyrics in both English and Yolŋu Matha, their traditional language, as heard on their sophomore full-length released last year, For the Dreams. Yirrnja recently announced that he has left the group, so this tour will feature new vocalist Ngalakan Wanambi, who sang with the band on a previous U.S. tour.

Also known as an actor with a recurring role on Friday Night Lights as Swede, a party animal who tries to woo the coach’s daughter, the majority of his self-released debut album Roll the Bones features him playing solo.
