Four-day Comic-Con passes run over $200 and are harder to find than a Vulcan jokebook, but several more accessible Con-themed events are happening off-site. Wednesday, July 20 will feature the Superheroes and Villains theme party with DJs and two dance floors at Toro nightclub on Fifth Avenue (no cover charge from 9-10, $5 thereafter).

Also on Wednesday, Parq on Broadway hosts an event celebrating the Thor: Love and Thunder movie: Ready Party One: Love and Thunder will feature The Flux Capacitors, a 1980s-themed band named after the device used in the Back to the Future movies ($35 and up).

More 1980s nostalgia will be mined Thursday July 21, with Stranger Things Night at downtown’s House of Blues. Club ‘90s presents a celebration of the fantasy streaming series, which is set in the decade when cast member Winona Ryder first became famous ($18, 18-up).

The timeless Chee Chee Bar at 929 Broadway hosts the FukdWorld comedy troupe for a free Thursday night Comic-Con Video Premiere with limited edition merchandise for sale, as well as raffle prizes.

The Gaslamp district encourages cosplay with the Comic-Con Pub Crawl on Friday and Saturday. American Junkie and Taste and Thirst are among the bars involved ($10-$17). Exposé Gentleman’s Club on Kearny Villa road features cosplay night on Friday, with a Comic-Con Cosplay feature presentation by Lacey Rain ($10, free for Fight Capital NFT holders).

A four-hour Comic-Con San Diego Yacht Party will board Saturday, July 23 at the County Pier on Harbor Drive. The Heavy Metal-magazine themed event features DJ/choreographer Matt Steffanina and Doll Machine ($250-$500).

If your wallet feels thin this month, Digital LA will have a free meetup on Saturday at Coin-Op Game Room Gaslamp. The 21-up bar-arcade has vintage memorabilia that includes posters for movies and bands, toys, old game systems hooked up to consumer TV sets, and a vintage video game arcade.
