More beers coming to the rescue

New breweries join lupus charity campaign

In January, I launched a fundraising and awareness campaign for the Lupus Foundation of Southern California utilizing the quality wares of local brewing companies that volunteered to brew beers to raise proceeds for this year-long effort, which is called Beer to the Rescue.

When I first wrote about it, only a few beer-release event details were available. Now, the entire first half of the year is planned out, including the identities of the beers that will be offered. And, more good news — lots more breweries have signed up to participate.

Thanks to the additions of Bay City Brewing Company, Booze Brothers Brewing Company, Half Door Brewing Company, Kilowatt Brewing Company, Oceanside Ale Works, Pacific Islander Beer Company, Thorn St. Brewery, and Twisted Manzanita Ales, there are more than 40 events taking place in association with this campaign. Most of them involve individual beers that go beyond traditional brewing guidelines or a brewery’s current offerings. The following is the schedule from now through the end of June.

March 21, 11:30 a.m. | Barley Forge Brewing Co., Costa Mesa: Lupulin Against Lupus Collaboration Imperial White IPA with orange peel and coriander

March 26, 5 p.m. | Pizza Port, Solana Beach: Saisian Persuasion Saison with yuzu, lemongrass, ginger and green peppercorns

March 27, 5 p.m. | Aztec Brewery, Vista: Lupulin Against Lupus Collaboration Imperial White IPA with orange peel and coriander

March 28, 11:30 a.m. | Urge Gastropub, Rancho Bernardo: Stone Total Tap Takeover (proceeds to benefit the LFSC)

April 2, 6 p.m. | Ballast Point Tasting Room & Kitchen, Little Italy: Oompa Lupus Imperial Milk Stout with chocolate, orange peel, and cascabel chilies

April 4, 12 p.m. | Toolbox Brewing Company, Vista: X Out Lupus blueberry-infused 100% sour Brett beer

April 8, 6 p.m. | Bagby Beer Company, Oceanside: Stay the Kölsch Kölsch-style ale

May 1 & 2, 11 a.m. | Coronado Brewing Company, Bay Park: Gose to Charity orange-infused Gose

May 9, 1 p.m. | Oceanside Ale Works, Oceanside: Honey Nut CheeriO-Side Oatmeal Honey Pecan Brown Ale

May 16, 1 p.m. | Intergalactic Brewing Company, Miramar: Astral Scottish Export Ale

May 27, TBD | Sublime Ale House, San Marcos: fundraiser event

June 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 | Societe Brewing Company, Kearny Mesa: Beer to the Rescue featured charity with portion of beer sales benefitting LFSC

June 12, 4 p.m. | Green Flash Brewing Company, Mira Mesa: Passion Fruit Kicker experimentally dry-hopped white Brett IPA with passion fruit

June 20, 12 p.m. | San Diego International Beer Festival, Del Mar: Beer to the Rescue panel discussion and tasting

June 21, 1 p.m. | Amplified Ale Works, Pacific Beach: L3 (lavender, lime & lupus) Belgian-style Wit with lavender and lime

June 26, 4 p.m. | Booze Brothers Brewing Company, Vista: Lights Out Lupus (LOL) black Belgian-style Biere de Garde

If anybody is interested in volunteering in any capacity, be it staffing the LFSC’s booths at beer festivals and release events or anything else you can lend to the campaign — elbow grease, administrative assistance, a fun personality — shoot me an email. The same goes for any brewing companies that would like to participate. There is always room for more and we are happy to welcome anybody aboard. Thank you all for your support.
