Border Patrol agents based in El Centro saved an unconscious woman from drowning Sunday afternoon (May 4) after she was pulled from a car that had driven into an irrigation canal near farmland in the Imperial Valley.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., agents responded to a call of a car that had lost control and driven into the canal just northeast of El Centro. The first agent responding to the scene dove into the canal and extracted the 24-year-old driver from her red sedan.

The unidentified victim received CPR treatment until she regained consciousness, at which time she was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

A tow truck was dispatched to retrieve the vehicle.
